Busy MCAC Weekend to Open up 2019-20

Teams from around the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) kick-off the 2019-20 academic and athletic year this weekend, with several contests in football, volleyball and soccer on the schedule.  Additionally, MCAC teams in clay target and golf begin to assemble and jump into their seasons in September.

In volleyball, ten teams travel to St. Cloud for the MCAC Crossover Tournament, hosted by St. Cloud Technical & Community College at the Whitney Center.  Teams will play four matches over two days in St. Cloud, giving fans, families and followers a first look at much of the MCAC Volleyball ranks this year.  For more on the MCAC Crossover, please click here.  Additionally, Anoka-Ramsey Community College will compete in scrimmages against Macalester College and Dakota County Technical College in exhibition action on Saturday, August 24 in their first appearance under new head coach Brandon Bader.

On the soccer pitch, Rochester Community & Technical College opened up their 2019 campaign with a 3-0 win over NJCAA Division II program Dakota County Technical College; the Yellowjackets saw Fatima Sanchez-Hernandez collect a shutout with 12 saves, while Mae Litschauer tallied a hatrick for RCTC in the win.  The women's team at Anoka-Ramsey Community College will face Madison (WI) College at home at noon on Sunday; the Golden Rams enter this season ranked #10 in the NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer pre-season national poll. The ARCC men's team will also take on Madison, and compete in an exhibition contest at the College of St. Scholastica on Friday as well.  Lake Superior College will play their first regular-season contests in a men's and women's soccer double-header on the road against Iowa Central Community College; both contests mark the first regular season games under new coaches, Anthony Wood and Caitlyn Wood.

Football programs around the MCAC have been going since early August and will get their first taste of regular season play on Saturday. Five games will kick off on Saturday, with three new head coaches and one interim head coach all vying for their first win for their respective programs.  Eyes will be on Bottineau, North Dakota where Dakota College-Bottineau hosts Central Lakes College at noon in one of the top early-season match-ups of 2019.  Itasca Community College - the coaches pick to win the MCAC Eastern Division - hosts Minnesota West CTC, while Northland Community & Technical College travels to Vermilion Community College for a 1:30pm kickoff. Mesabi Range College will host Rochester Community & Technical College in an afternoon affair on Saturday, with a 4pm start time.  The final game of Week 1 will featureFond du Lac Tribal & Community College hosting M State-Fergus Falls at 7pm; both programs feature new head coaches in Robert Smith (FDLTCC) and Cory Miller (MSFF), one of which will open his win column account. North Dakota State College of Science has a bye in Week 1.
