Several soccer teams from across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference opened up their 2019 seasons over the past week.
Anoka-Ramsey Community College women's soccer - #10 in the current NJCAA poll - opened up the season with Madison College at home in Coon Rapids. Madison dealt the Golden Rams a 2-0 setback in a closely contested match; both teams had 17 shots, while ARCC held the edge in corners, 10-4. Rebekah Anderson had seven saves for Anoka-Ramsey. The ARCC men's team also faced Madison and played the Wolves to ta 0-0 draw. Goalkeeper Devon Thompson registered four saves to pick up the shutout.
The Rochester Community & Technical College women's soccer team had a great start to the 2019 season with a 3-0 win over NJCAA Division II Dakota County Technical College; the Yellowjackets saw Mae Litschauer tally a hat trick with three goals, two in the second half, while goalkeeper Fatima Sanchez Hernandez registered 12 saves for the shutout. RCTC returns to the field on Monday, with a 6pm game at home against Bethany Lutheran College in an exhibition contest.
The Lake Superior College men's team had a rough start to the 2019 regular season, dropping a 10-0 contest to Iowa Central CC. The IceHawks will look to rebound when they have their home opener, Tuesday, August 27, hosting the JV team from UW-Superior. The LSC women's team is scheduled to play Dakota County Technical College on September, 7, at DCTC.
Minnesota West will open their 2019 men's & women's season at Northwestern (IA) on Wednesday, August 28 with a 5pm/7pm double header. Their first MCAC action in women's soccer will be on Saturday, August 31 when they travel to Rochester Community & Technical College; the men's team will open up MCAC play on September 11 when they travel to Anoka-Ramsey.
Riverland Community College men's soccer will debut under new head coach Frank Spaeth on Wednesday, August 28 with a contest against the JV team of North Central University. Their MCAC opener will be against ARCC at home, with a 6:30pm kickoff in Austin.
