Winona, MN-

Alexandria Technical & Community College recently announced their formal application to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as they pursue an expanded sports and recreation program to bolster recruitment and retention efforts at the school.

ATCC competed this past fall as a member of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference in the sport of Clay Target, one of 12 two-year colleges fielding a varsity team in 2019.  Alex Tech went on to thrive in their first year, winning the 2019 MCAC Fall Championship as a team, and placing several individuals - men and women - in various Top-10 categories in both regular season and fall championship competition. The MCAC partners with USA Clay Target in the support of the innovative competition; the community of Alexandria, Minnesota also is host to the USA Clay Target's Minnesota State High School Clay Target League Championships, one of the largest high school events in the country.

New president Michael Seymour brings to Alexandria the experience in launching athletic and recreation programs at other two-year colleges; Seymour came to ATCC from Lake Superior College, where he oversaw the development of several MCAC and NJCAA sports programs, including cycling, soccer (men's & women's), basketball (men's and women's) and trap shooting.  Prior to his role at Lake Superior, Seymour help guide Anoka-Ramsey Community College and their initiatives in establishing men's and women's sports programs on the  Coon Rapids campus.

Recently, the college named Tony Van Acker as the Athletic Director at ATCC.  Van Acker currently serves as an instructor in exercise science on campus.
