Southern Division champion St. Cloud Technical & Community College (23-2) leads a strong contingent of Southern Division squads to Coon Rapids and are ranked No. 9 in NJCAA.  Three of the four MCAC South programs are ranked nationally; SCTCC, No. 5 Rochester Community & Technical College (22-5 overall) and No. 13 Riverland Community College (23-4).  The fourth MCAC Southern Division representative - Ridgewater College - brings a 16-9 record and a 2019-20 resume which includes wins over Riverland and Northern Division runner-up Northland Community & Technical College.

Central Lakes College,  also nationally ranked at No. 11 with a 23-4 mark, ran through the MCAC Northern Division schedule unbeaten and have won their last 18 games.  The Raiders fell to SCTCC 82-77 on December 14 and have not lost since that contest. Joining CLC in Coon Rapids are Northland CTC (17-10), Hibbing Community College (12-12) and Rainy River Community College (15-12).
