Winona, MN-

In a highly fluid and evolving in the 2019-20 NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship tournament, one thing is for certain.

A team from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference will hoist the championship hardware.

Western Technical College defeated #2 seed and host Rock Valley College, 83-74 to advance to the National Championship contest where they will face fellow MCAC program Northland Community and Technical College.

Caitlyn Young hit seven 3-pointers and had 23 points overall while the Cavaliers enjoyed a double-digit lead for most of the second half, allowing for several substitutions and the utilization of a deep Western Tech bench.

First-year coach Brent Thill guided his squad to the first national championship appearance in any NJCAA sport for Western Tech; last season, former coach Chad Dull and Western Tech made their first appearance in the 2018-19 NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship tournament.  Western Tech moves their record to 24-6 overall on the year.

Northland defeated #8 Cedar Valley 50-49 in a nail-biter that came down to the final few seconds; Janie Wunderlich hit a free throw to win it for the Pioneers with 4.3 seconds

Due to recent changes in the NJCAA Basketball Championships, the semi-final and championship rounds will both occur on Friday, March 13.   The Pioneers and Cavaliers will turn around and compete on a few hours rest; championship tip-off is scheduled for 6pm CST this evening at Rock Valley College.
