MCAC Weekly Baseball Honors - Week of March 15-21

Rochester, MN-

Rainy River Community College athletes bring home a pair of Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) baseball awards for the week of March 15 – 21 as Julian De Alva earns the North Division Player-of-the-Week and Mateo Sierras secures the North Division Pitcher-of-the-Week. Gabe Sepulveda from Rochester Community and Technical College was named the Baseball Player-of-the-Week for the South Division while Brayden Buttweiler from Anoka-Ramsey Community College was the South's Pitcher-of-the-Week, and Justin Dykhoff (Minnesota State – Fergus Falls) was named the Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for the Central Division.  No nominations were submitted for the Central Player-of-the-Week.

Mateo Sierras

Tucson, AZ

 

  

 

Mateo Sierras, a freshman from Tucson, AZ pitched a complete game 3-hitter on Saturday against #10 ranked Rochester Community and Technical College to pick up his first win of his collegiate career.  Commanding the mound for 7 innings, Sierras gave up 1 earned run, struck out 7 batters, and had the walk-off game winning hit as he led the Rainy River Voyageurs to a 7-6 victory.  Through the 4-game series, Sierras went 6 for 12 from the plate with a double and accounted for 3 of the Voyageurs runs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                    

Julian De Alva

Rainy River freshman shortstop and Oro Valley, AZ product, Julian De Alva, had an impressive weekend both at the plate and in the field.  De Alva had a whopping .417 batting average (5 for 12) in the four-game series with 6 runs scored, 2 RBI, and a stolen base.  He was also responsible for putting out 9 runners including 2 separate double plays, with one of those unassisted.  Rainy River is now 2-4 on the season and returns to action on March 27 and 28 at Riverland Community College.

Pitcher of the Week

 

Justin Dykhoff

The MCAC Central Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week is Justin Dykhoff.  Dykhoff, a Minnesota State – Fergus Falls sophomore from Wadena, MN, pitched a complete game shut out against Concordia College.  Pitching 7 innings, Dykhoff struck out 7 while giving up no runs in his first win of the season.  He also helped his team at the plate by have an extra base hit and collecting 2 RBI in the victory.  M State – Fergus Falls will take the field again on Thursday, March 25 at Saint John's University JV.

Player & Pitcher of the Week

 

 

Gabe Sepulveda

The Rochester Community and Technical College baseball team continues to have a strong start to their non-conference season, and much of that offensive success can be attributed to this week's MCAC South Division Baseball Player of the Week, Gabe Sepulveda.  Sepulveda, a freshman third baseman and catcher from Conroe, TX, went 4 for 11 with 4 RBI and scored 3 runs in the four-game series against Rainy River.  He also walked 3 times.  Sepulveda is hitting .261 on the season with a slugging percentage of .435.  The RCTC Yellowjackets are now 5-2-1 and return home to play Central Lakes College on Saturday, March 27.

             

 

          

Brayden Buttweiler

Las Vegas, NV

 

Anoka-Ramsey Community College's Brayden Buttweiler has earned this week's MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week award for his dominating performance against Itasca Community College.  The freshman pitcher from Las Vegas, NV took the mound for 4 plus innings and gave up no earned runs on 3 hits and struck out 7 in his stellar outing.  Buttweiler walked only one batter and gave up two unearned runs leading his Golden Rams team to a 13-2 victory.  Anoka-Ramsey is now 2-0 on the young season and take on Vermilion Community College at home on Friday, March 26.
