The MCAC Central Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week is Jonathan Lerma.  Lerma, a Central Lakes College freshman from Tucson, AZ, pitched a complete game in his team's 9-6 win over Rochester Community and Technical College.  In his 7 innings of work, Lerma struck out 7 while only giving up 2 earned runs and one walk in his first win of the season. Phillip Zynda

So. / C

Austin, MN

Phillip Zynda, a sophomore catcher at Central Lakes College, has earned the MCAC Central Division Baseball Player-of-the-Week award for his offensive and defensive performances in a 4-game series with Rochester Community and Technical College. In the series, the Austin, MN product was 7 for 11 from the plate, with a home run, a triple, and 2 doubles. Zynda drove in 5 runs and took 3 walks, but almost as impressive as his offense was the double play he converted defensively for the Raiders. After an overthrow to first, Zynda, who had already hustled down the line to back up his first baseman, scooped up the ball and fired it to 2nd in time for the runner to be tagged out rather than advancing on the error. Zynda's Raiders are now 2-2 on the young season, and play again on Tuesday, March 30 at Riverland Community College.
