MCAC Weekly Softball Honors - Week of March 29 - April 4

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has announced its MCAC Softball Pitchers and Players-of-the-Week for the week of March 29-April 4.  Anoka-Ramsey Community College softball players garner both the MCAC South Division Softball Pitcher and Player-of-the-Week awards. Sunny Strait earns the Pitcher-of-the-Week honor after solid performances in her 4 games last week, and Emma Bright claims the Player-of-the-Week award after putting together great offensive games and leading Anoka-Ramsey to a 4-0 record during the week.

Sarah Kossan from Central Lakes College showcased her talents at the plate in two games this past week to earn the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week honor, while Marissa Kerry claims the MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week award for her outstanding performance in the circle in Rainy River's 33-2 win over Riverland.

 

 

 

 

South Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

Sunny Strait

Sophomore / Pitcher

Minnetonka, MN

 

 

Anoka-Ramsey Community College's veteran pitcher, Sunny Strait, started all four games that the Golden Rams competed in last week and was the winning pitcher in all four.  For those wins, Strait earned the MCAC South Division Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  The strong-armed Minnetonka, MN product pitched 26 innings through those outings and gave up 18 earned runs while striking out 20 batters and walking only 3. Strait helped her team at the plate as well blasting 6 home runs with 14 RBI and as she went 7 for 15 in the weekend contests.  The Golden Rams are now 5-3 on the season.

 

 

 

Emma Bright

Freshman / CF

Anoka, MN

 

 

Freshman Emma Bright (Anoka, MN) helped her Anoka-Ramsey Community College team earn 4 wins throughout the weekend with dynamic offensive play and brings home the MCAC South Division Softball Player-of-the-Week award.  The speedy outfielder went 11 for 15 from the plate with 3 walks in her 4 games, and she managed to have two different 4-hit games this weekend.  Bright had 2 doubles and a triple in her at-bats while knocking in 6 runs.  More impressively, Bright stole 10 bases on 10 attempts and leads the nation in steals with 14.  Anoka-Ramsey returns to their home field Tuesday, April 6 to take on Rainy River Community College.

                            

 

North Division 

Pitcher and Player-of-the-Week

Marissa Kerry

Sophomore / Pitcher 

International Falls, MN

Rainy River's sophomore pitcher, Marissa Kerry, claims the MCAC North Division Pitcher-of-the-Week award after a stellar performance against Riverland Community College. In the 33-2 win, the International Falls, MN native held Riverland to two earned runs over five innings and gave up only 3 hits while striking out 4. In addition, she belted 3 hits of her own in her 5 plate appearances, scoring 4 runs and driving in 3.  Kerry walked once as well.  She is now 1-2 on the season and helped her team improve to a record of 1-9 overall.  Rainy River returns to action on Wednesday, April 14 at Mesabi Range College.

 

Sarah Kossan

Freshman / OF

Motley, MN

 

 

Sarah Kossan, freshman at Central Lakes College, earns the MCAC North Division Softball Player-of-the-Week honor for her two offensive performances throughout the weekend.  The Motley, MN native compiled 6 hits on 6 at-bats, and walked twice, to help keep her team competitive in both games.  Kossan hit 3 doubles and drove in 4 RBI as well.  Kossan's Raiders are 1-6 on the season and return to the field on Wednesday, April 14 at Hibbing Community College.
