MCAC Weekly Baseball Honors - Week of March 29 - April 4

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) office has announced the MCAC Baseball Pitchers and Players-of-the-Week for the week of March 29 – April 4.

Central Lakes College athletes bring home a pair of MCAC baseball awards as Preston Rocheleau earns the Central Division Pitcher-of-the-Week and Gunnar Wicklund secures the Central Division Player-of-the-Week. Jakob Wiire from Vermilion Community College was named the Player-of-the-Week for the North Division while Konrad Kisch from Mesabi Range College was the North's Pitcher-of-the-WeekT Michelson from Rochester Community and Technical College was named the Pitcher-of-the-Week for the South Division, and Riverland's Drew Copley earned the Player-of-the-Week for the South

Preston Rocheleau

Pierz, MN

 

  

Preston Rocheleau, a sophomore from Pierz, MN, pitched a complete game 5-hitter on Saturday against Anoka-Ramsey Community College to pick up his first win of the season and earn the MCAC Central Division Pitcher-of-the-Week award.  Commanding the mound for 7 innings, Rocheleau gave up only 1 earned run, struck out 6 batters, and went 3 for 7 hitting and scored 3 runs in the Raiders 6-4 win.  Rocheleau helped his Central Lakes College team improve to 6-4 on the season.

 

 

 

 

        

Gunnar Wickland

Central Lakes freshman catcher and Brainerd, MN product, Gunnar Wicklund, had an impressive week at the plate.  Wicklund hit in all six games for the Raiders last week, smashing 3 hits in each of 4 different games.  Going 14 for 25 last week, Wicklund hit 4 home runs, 2 doubles, and drove in 12 runs as he helped his Raider team win 4 of the 6 games played during the week.  Central Lakes takes the field again on Saturday at Northland Community and Technical College.


         

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MCAC North Division 

Pitcher & Player of the Week

 

Konrad Kisch

Maple Grove, MN

 

 

 

 

The MCAC North Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week is Konrad Kisch.  Kisch, a Mesabi Range College sophomore from Maple Grove, MN, pitched a complete game, scattering 4 hits and allowing no earned runs against Itasca Community College.  Pitching 7 innings, Kisch struck out 5 while giving up only 1 unearned run in his team's 1-0 loss.  Mesabi Range is now 2-9 on the season and returns to action on Wednesday, April 7 at Hibbing Community College.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jakob Wiire

Titusville, FL

The Vermilion Community College baseball team is one of the hottest teams in the MCAC, winning 7 of their last 9 games.  Much of that success rides on the bat of Jakob Wiire.  The Titusville, FL sophomore went 6 for 12 over the weekend, pounding a two-run and a three-run homer in Vermilion's win against Rainy River on Friday.  Wiire added a triple and 8 RBI to his stat line as well, earning him the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week.  In addition to his strong plate appearances, Wiire took the mound for 7 innings and struck out 10 in the Ironmen's 11-10 win over Central Lakes.  Vermilion has improved their record to 9-5 and return to play at Itasca Community College on Tuesday, April 6.

 

 

 

 

 

 

MCAC South Division 

Pitcher & Player of the Week

Rochester Community and Technical College's T Mickelson has earned this week's MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week award for his dominating performance against Itasca Community College on Friday.  The freshman pitcher from Rochester, MN took the mound for 6 innings of work and struck out 9 while giving up no runs in his second win of the season.  Of his 99 pitches, Mickelson threw strikes on 70% of those pitches (69 strikes thrown). RCTC is now 10-5-1 on the season and takes the field again on Tuesday, April 6 at St. Cloud Technical and Community College.

Drew Copley

Grand Meadow, MN

 

The Riverland Community College baseball team continues to put together an incredible early season, and much of that offensive success comes at the hands of this week's MCAC South Division Baseball Player of the Week, Drew Copley.  Copley, a freshman utility player from Grand Meadow, MN went 13 for 29 with 17 RBI in his last 8 games.  He has hit four home runs and contacted 7 balls for extra base hits.  He is also a patient hitter, walking 7 times last week.  Copley speed is paying off as well for the Blue Devils as he was able to steal 3 bases on his 3 attempts.  Copley is hitting .500 on the season with an on-base percentage of .609.  Riverland is now 10-2 and returns to action Wednesday, April 7 at Viterbo University.
