MCAC Weekly Baseball Honors - Week of April 26 - May 2

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) office has announced the MCAC Baseball Pitchers and Players-of-the-Week for the week of April 26 – May 2.

In the MCAC North Division, Vermilion's Ryan Kling threw a 4-hit game to shut down Rainy River and earn the pitcher-of-the-week honors, and Brandon Renick from Rainy River was spectacular at the plate as he hit .600 and knocked in 3 home runs to earn the player-of-the-week honors.

Minnesota State Fergus Fall's Will Hoernemann picks up the MCAC Central Division Pitcher-of-the-Week award again this week after a one-run complete game performance on the mound, and Will Funk from St. Cloud Technical and Community College earns the Central Division Player-of-the-Week honor after hitting .727 and two home runs in his 11 plate appearances.

For the MCAC South Division, T Mickelson earns his second Pitcher-of-the-Week honor after throwing a complete game one-hitter from the mound, and Hayden Siebers from Riverland Community College slammed 4 home runs in two games to earn the MCAC South Division Player-of-the-Week award.

MCAC North Division 

Pitcher & Player of the Week

 

 

Ryan Kling

Fr. / Pitcher

New Richmond, WI

 

Ryan Kling, the Vermilion Community College freshman hailing from New Richmond, WI, earned the MCAC North Division Pitcher-of-the-Week honor after throwing a five-inning four-hitter against Rainy River in the Ironmen's 11-1 win on Sunday.  Kling limited the Voyageurs to one run and struck out three while only walking two on the day.  Kling's excellent performance came against a Rainy River team that put up 45 runs and hit 16 homers in the other three games of the series. Vermilion takes a 17-11 overall record and 7-5 divisional record into Itasca Community College on Saturday.

 

 

 

        

Brandon Renick

Fr. / 1B - OF

Lakeville, MN

 

Brandon Renick, the Lakeville, MN native and Rainy River Community College freshman had an excellent week at the plate for the Voyageurs to earn him the MCAC North Division Player-of-the-Week award.  In his four games last week, Renick had 12 hits on 20 at bats, with three home runs, two doubles, and three singles. He scored 12 runs and drove in 11 RBI, while stealing base twice and putting up a .750 on-base-percentage.   Renick helped his Voyageurs team knock in 16 home runs during the 4-game series with Vermilion.  Rainy River improved to a 13-20 overall and 10-6 in the MCAC North.  They take the field again on Thursday at Minnesota State Fergus Falls.

 

 

 

 

 

MCAC Central Division 

Pitcher & Player of the Week

 

Will Hoernemann

Will Hoernemann, Minnesota State - Fergus Falls freshman from Hamburg, MN, is named the MCAC Central Division Pitcher-of-the-Week as he racked up his second win and third save of the season.  Hoernemann threw a complete game 4-hitter, striking out 7 and walking one while giving up only 1 earned run in the victory.  For his two outings, Hoerneman had an ERA of 1.17.  Minnesota State – Fergus Falls' record is 13-17 overall and 5-5 in the division.  The Spartans will next take on Northland on Wednesday on the road.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Will Funk

So. / CF

Sauk Centre, MN

 

St. Cloud Technical and Community College sophomore, Will Funk, earns the MCAC Central Division Player-of-the-Week honor after compiling a .727 batting average for the week.  Funk, the Sauk Centre, MN product, scored seven runs and drove in 11 RBI in four games last week.  He hit two home runs and two doubles and was walked once.  Funk helped his team improve to 18-1 on the season and an undefeated 10-0 record in divisional play.  The Cyclones return to the diamond on Wednesday to conclude their regular season against Central Lakes College.

 

 

 

 

MCAC South Division

Pitcher & Player of the Week

T Mickelson

Rochester, MN

 

For the second time this season, Rochester Community and Technical College's T Mickelson earns the MCAC South Division Pitcher-of-the-Week honor by throwing a near perfect game.  In his seven innings of shutout work against Anoka-Ramsey Community College, the Rochester, MN freshman gave up only 1 hit and walked two on his way to earning his third win of the season.  Mickelson struck out 9 batters, and now has 60 strikeouts on the season which leads the nation.  The Yellowjackets are 21-15-1 on the season and 6-6 in their division, and now await the Region XIII Tournament scheduled to begin May 13 in St. Cloud, MN.

 

 

 

 

Hayden Siebers

So. / 1B - P

Loveland, CO

The MCAC South Division Player-of-the-Week is Hayden Siebers.  Siebers, a Riverland Community College sophomore from Loveland, CO, earned his first weekly honor of the season.  Siebers went 4 for 7 through the week, with 4 home runs and 6 RBI in his four games.  He had 4 extra base hits and hit 3 homers in his 4 at-bats in the first game of a doubleheader with M State – Fergus Falls.  The Blue Devils improve to 24-8 overall and 4-4 in the MCAC South.  They will take on Century College at home on Saturday.
