MCAC Weekly Softball Honors - Week of May 3 - 9

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has announced its MCAC Softball Pitchers and Players-of-the-Week for the week of May 3 - 9.  Rainy River Community College athletes claim both the pitcher and player of the week awards for the MCAC North, and St. Cloud Technical and Community College athletes take home both MCAC South awards. 

Mariah Leahy, sophomore pitcher at Rainy River gave up two runs in her two outings, striking out 8 batters and hitting two doubles and driving in 6 runs herself.  She picks up the MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week award.  Her teammate, Maddison Lehto, this week's MCAC North Player-of-the-Week, was not going to be outdone at the plate, going 16 for 21 and knocking in 3 home runs and 20 RBI on the week.

In the MCAC South, this week's pitcher of the week is Molly Carnell from St. Cloud Technical and Community College.  Molly started two games, compiling a 4.08 ERA in 12 innings of work and striking out 14 batters.  Kaija Ludewig put together an amazing week at the plate for the Cyclones to earn the MCAC South Player of the Week.  Ludewig gathered 9 hits in 13 at-bats, with a home run, a triple, and two doubles.  She also was outstanding in the field, turning several double plays.

North Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

Mariah Leahy

Sophomore / Pitcher

International Falls, MN

 

 

Mariah Leahy, sophomore pitcher at Rainy River Community College, started two games last week and gave up only two runs while striking out 8 batters and walking only 1.  She also went 7-14 at the plate with two doubles and 6 RBI.  Leahy earns the MCAC North Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week award for helping her Voyageur squad move to a 16-12 record and 14-2 in the division.  Rainy River takes the field again on Monday, May 17 at Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

 

 

 

Maddison Lehto

Freshman / SS

Roseville, MN

 


Maddison Lehto, freshman from Roseville, MN and Rainy River standout shortstop, earns the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week award after going 16 for 21 at the plate, with three home runs, two doubles, and 20 RBI on the week.  She had a .761 batting average and helped her Voyageur team clinch the MCAC North Division title.  Rainy River takes the field again on Monday, May 17 at Anoka-Ramsey Community College.                          

 

South Division 

Pitcher and Player-of-the-Week

Molly Carnell

Freshman / Pitcher 

Comfrey, MN

St. Cloud Technical and Community College pitcher, Molly Carnell, has been named the MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week after earning two wins in her two starts last week for the Cyclones. In 12 innings of work, Carnell compiled a 4.08 ERA, striking out 14 batters and walking only 3.  The Comfrey, MN product also hit a double and drove in 3 RBI, helping her Cyclones improve to 16-6 overall and 12-2 in the division.  St. Cloud returns to the field on Thursday, May 13 to take on Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

 

 

Kaija Ludewig

Freshman / 2B - SS

St. Cloud, MN

 

Kaija Ludewig, St. Cloud, MN freshman earned the MCAC South Player-of-the-Week honor by going 9 for 13 from the plate, with a home run, a triple, two doubles and driving in 6 RBI.  Ludewig scored 8 runs herself and stole 4 bases, while defensively turning multiple double plays, en route to helping her team go undefeated during the week. St. Cloud returns to the field on Thursday, May 13 to take on Anoka-Ramsey Community College.
