US Marines MCAC Weekly Volleyball Honors: Week of August 30 - September 5

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly volleyball awards for the week of August 30-September 5. These awards are sponsored by the Marines.  

For the second straight week, a Central Lakes College hitter earns this week's Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor for the MCAC North Division.  Jacey Rydberg hit .438 in the Raiders one match of the week while serving three aces as well.  This week's Defensive Player-of-the-Week award goes to Mesabi Range College's Taylor Mejdrich.  Through strong passing and defensive play, Mejdrich helped lead her Norse team to a thrilling 5-set win over Hibbing Community College.

Minnesota State Community and Technical College athletes sweep the MCAC South Offensive and Defensive Athletes-of-the-Week Awards this week.  Kaia Strom, the Spartans setter, compiled 85 assists and 6 service aces through her team's three wins to earn the Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor, while Bailey Marty dug 85 balls and had 8 service aces in those wins to earn the Defensive Player-of-the-Week award.

Jacey Rydberg

Fr. / Hitter & Setter

Crosby, MN

 

Central Lakes College freshman hitter/setter Jacey Rydberg (Crosby, MN) led her team to another win this week.  In the 3 set match, Rydberg had 8 kills on 16 swings with only 1 error, good enough for a .438 hitting percentage.  She also took over as the setter in a 5-1 system during set 3 where she had 3 assists.  Rydberg served 3 aces and also dug up 3 balls and blocked one. The versatile Raider earns this week's North Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor.  Central Lakes is now 5-4 on the season and returns to the court on Wednesday to take on Northland Community and Technical College.

                    

Taylor Mejdrich

Orr, MN

 

 

The North Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor goes to Taylor Mejdrich from Mesabi Range College. In her team's 5-set match win this week, the Orr, MN sophomore outside hitter had 18 digs, 3 service aces, and assisted in a block.  Mejdrich also scored on 6 kills in the match.  Mejdrich and her Norse team will return to action Friday at Northland.  Mesabi Range is currently 1-4 on the season and 1-0 in division play.

 

Other Notable Performers

Thea Baier (Setter, Vermilion CC): served 10 aces in a 3-set win over Oak Hills. Baier served the entire first set en route to a 25-0 win.

Camryn Olsen (MH, Mesabi Range College): 15 kills, .382 hitting efficiency, and 2 service aces in a 5-set win.

Sarah Bennett (L, Central Lakes College): 13 digs in a 3 set win.

Kylie Solheim (UTL, Northland CTC): 19 digs and 3 kills in 5 sets this week.

 

 

MCAC Volleyball - South Division

Kaia Strom

Fergus Falls, MN

 

The MCAC South Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor was earned by Minnesota State - Fergus Falls freshman setter, Kaia Strom. Leading her team to 3 wins this week, Strom compiled 85 assists, 6 service aces, and 16 kills in the 12 sets played.  With the three wins this week, the Fergus Falls native helped drive her team into the NJCAA national polls at #9.  The Spartans are now 3-0 on the season and return to the court on Friday at the RCTC Tournament.

                    

Bailey Marty

Chokio, MN

 

Minnesota State - Fergus Falls' libero Bailey Marty has earned this week's South Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor.  The sophomore from Chokio, MN, dug 85 balls in 12 sets, and scooped up 33 digs in each match of two of the Spartans wins this week.  Marty also was serving nails as she racked up 8 aces and went 51 of 52 from the service line.  Minnesota State - Fergus Falls takes a 3-0 record into the RCTC Tournament on Friday.
