US Marines MCAC Week 2 Football Honors Announced

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its second weekly football awards of 2021.  These awards are for the week of August 30 - September 5 and sponsored by the Marines.

Mesabi Range College has its first athlete of the week as Montrellis Wilson (WR) earns an Offensive Player-of-the-Week award with his 13 reception performance on Saturday.  #5 ranked Rochester Community and Technical College, for the second straight week, has a running back earn the other MCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor.  Israel Lozoya ran for 160 yards, averaging 22.9 yards per carry, in the team's loss to #3 Itasca Community College.

Keith Davis Jr., the #3 Itasca Community College freshman defensive tackle, earns a Defensive Player-of-the-Week award after his 10 tackle performance in a win over #5 Rochester Community and Technical CollegeCentral Lakes College's Tim Ryan earns the other MCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor.  The strong safety had 12 tackles with 8 solo in his team's loss to Minnesota State - Fergus Falls on Saturday.

Minnesota State - Fergus Falls kicker and punter, Carsen McKnight, earns the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week honor with his outstanding kicking and punting performance in his team's win over Central Lakes College, the first since 2003.

Each week throughout the 2021 season, two offensive, two defensive, and a special teams athlete will be named players-of-the-week, based on nominations submitted by MCAC member football programs.

Montrellis Wilson

Americus, GA

 

 

Mesabi Range College wide receiver, Montrellis Wilson, had an incredible offensive outing on Saturday against Vermilion Community College to earn Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors.  The Americus, GA sophomore had 13 receptions for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns in the team's loss.  Wilson averaged 10.2 yards per catch and his longest reception was 40 yards.  He also ran the ball twice for 6 yards.  The Norse are now 0-2 on the season and play at Minnesota West on Saturday.

                    

Israel Lozoya

Rochester, MN

 

 

Israel Lozoya, sophomore running back for Rochester Community and Technical College has been named Offensive Player-of-the-Week after his outstanding rushing performance for the Yellowjackets.  Lozoya had 7 carries and rushed for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game, with a 22.9 yards per carry average and one carry of 95 yards.  RCTC is now 1-1 on the season, and plays Central Lakes College at home on Saturday.

Terrence Isaac, Jr. (WR, Vermilion CC): 6 receptions for 109 yards and 1 touchdown

Tucker Schultz (WR, Central Lakes College): 3 receptions for 94 yards and 1 touchdown

Marselio Mendez (WR, NDSCS): 5 receptions for 73 yards and 1 touchdown, and 1 rush for 16 yards

Keith Davis, Jr.

Anderson, IN

 

 

Keith Davis Jr., freshman defensive tackle for #3 Itasca Community College, earns Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors with his defensive show on Saturday.  The Anderson, IN native racked up 10 total tackles with 3 for a loss, and 4.5 sacks on the day.  Itasca Community College will return to action on Saturday as they host Vermilion Community College. The Vikings are now 2-0 on the season.

 

Tim Ryan

Pequot Lakes, MN

 

 

Central Lakes sophomore strong safety, Tim Ryan, put together a strong defensive performance against Minnesota State - Fergus Falls on Saturday earn him Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors.  Ryan, from Pequot Lakes, MN, had 12 tackles, 8 of those being solo tackles, and 1 of them for loss.  With the loss though, the Raiders fall to 0-2 and travel to #5 Rochester Community and Technical College on Saturday.

Sylvester Ware (DL, NDSCS): 2 tackles with 1.5 for loss, 1 sack

Minnesota State - Fergus Falls freshman kicker and punter, Carsen McKnight was 4 for 4 on extra points for the Spartans, and on 5 kickoffs, he had 1 touchback and averaged 54.8 yards per kickoff.  The dual threat athlete averaged 36.6 yards per punt with a long of 48 yards.  He also pinned Central Lakes inside the 20 yard line twice.  M State improved to 2-0 and hosts #4 NDSCS on Saturday.

Ethan Forthun (K/P, RCTC): 2 for 3 on PAT's, 1 for 2 on FG with a long of 23 yards, 6 punts for 239 yards with a long of 60 yards
