US Marines MCAC Weekly Soccer Honors: Week of September 20 - 26

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly soccer awards for the week of September 20-26.  These awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines. Rochester Community and Technical College goalkeeper Fatima Sanchez Hernandez has been named the Women's Soccer Goalkeeper-of-the-Week following a stellar eight save performance, her thrid weekly award this season.   Haley Doyea from Rochester Community and Technical College claims the Field Athlete-of-the-Week after scoring a goal and assisting on another to help her Yellowjackets chalk up another MCAC win.

In MCAC Men's Soccer, Lei Htoo from Riverland Community College scored five goals in two games over the last week to earn the Field Athlete-of-the-Week honor.  There were no nominations for the goalkeeper of the week.

Goalkeeper and Field Player of the Week

 

 

Fatima Sanchez Hernandez

Fatima Sanchez Hernandez, goalkeeper at Rochester Community and Technical College, had another stellar performance as she saved 8 of 9 shots on goal in her 90 minutes of work to earn this week's MCAC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper-of-the-Week award. The sophomore from Banning, CA has 42 saves on the season and has only given up one goal in MCAC action this year.

The 4-2 Yellowjackets are undefeated in conference play (2-0) and return to the field on Wednesday when they travel to Anoka-Ramsey for a rematch from Saturday that ended in a 2-1 win for RCTC.

                    

Haley Doyea

Anoka, MN

 

 

The MCAC Women's Soccer Field Player-of-the-Week honor was earned by another Yellowjacket, Haley Doyea.  Doyea, freshman midfielder from Anoka, MN, scored one goal and assisted on another goal to lead her team to a 2-1 win over Anoka-Ramsey Community College.  She took 6 shots, 5 on goal, in the win and now has 4 goals and 5 assists on the season.

Rochester Community and Technical College is 4-2 overall and 2-0 in MCAC play, and they travel to Anoka-Ramsey to take on the Golden Rams again this Wednesday.

The MCAC Men's Soccer Field Athlete-of-the-Week is Lei Htoo, freshman wing for Riverland Community College.  Htoo, an Albert Lea, MN product scored 3 goals in a 6-2 road conference win over Minnesota West, and then followed that up with a 2 goal, 1 assist game in the team's 4-1 win over Bethel University JV.  Htoo now has 7 goals and 4 assists on the season.

 

The Blue Devil's are now 4-4-1 overall and are 2-0-1 in the MCAC.  They play at home on Wednesday against Bethany Lutheran College JV.
