US Marines MCAC Weekly Volleyball Honors: Week of September 20 - 26

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly volleyball awards for the week of September 20-26. These awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines. 

Minnesota State -Fergus Falls and Rochester Community and Technical College each place one athlete on the weekly awards for the MCAC South Division after battling each other in a tough 5-set match.  Setter Chelsea Lasker earned the MCAC South Offensive Player-of-the-Week award with her 163 assists and 6 service aces in RCTC's four wins last week.  Bailey Marty, M State's libero, claims the MCAC South Defensive Player-of-the-Week award after digging 108 balls and serving seven aces in the Spartans 13 sets last week.

Central Lakes College and Vermilion Community College athletes each take home a weekly award for the MCAC North. Haley Schleper, middle hitter for CLC, claims her second Offensive Player-of-the-Week award this season after knocking down 56 kills and averaging 5.09 kills per set in her 11 sets through the week.  Vermilion middle hitter, Kaelynn Kudis, earned the Defensive Player-of-the-Week award with her 26 dig, 3 block performance to lead her Voyageurs to a 3-1 victory over rival Mesabi Range College.

Chelsea Lasker

Rochester Community and Technical College's setter, Chelsea Lasker, earned this week's South Division Offensive-Player-of-the-Week award after tossing up 163 assists while also getting 6 kills and 6 service aces.  Lasker also dug up 34 balls. The freshman court leader from Dodge City, MN assisted her team to four wins and a #3 national ranking.  She is averaging nearly 9 assists per set this season.

The #3 ranked Yellowjackets are now 10-3 on the season and 8-0 in the South Division.  They take the court again at home on Wednesday to play Riverland Community College.

                    

Bailey Marty

So. / Libero

Chokio, MN

 

 

 

Bailey Marty, freshman libero for Minnesota State Community and Technical College, claimed this week's South Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor.  The Chokio, MN native dug 108 balls in 13 sets, averaging 8.30 digs per set.  Marty also had 7 service aces last week, and in a win over St. Cloud Technical and Community College, she set a program record by digging 52 balls in the 5-set match.  Marty currently leads the nation in digs.   

M State - Fergus Falls moved up to #6 in the national rankings, and is now 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the South Division.  The Spartans play at Ridgewater College on Wednesday.

Mackay Williams (Setter, Century College): 79 assists, 6 kills, and 4 aces in 8 sets.

Kiley Nihart (Libero, RCTC): 80 digs and 3 service aces in 17 sets.

Anya Maack (Middle Hitter, MSFF): 36 kills in 13 sets.

Haley Schleper

So. / Middle Hitter - Rightside Hitter

St. Joseph, MN

 

 

Haley Schleper earns the MCAC North Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor, her second of the season. The Central Lakes College middle hitter had 56 kills and averaged 5.09 kills per set last week to lead her Raiders to two wins.  Schleper, a sophomore from St. Joseph, MN also had four blocks, 37 digs, and a service ace.  In her match against St. Cloud Tech, Schleper had 28 kills and 22 digs.

The Raiders are now 11-8 overall, 5-0 in the North Division and are ranked #8 in the nation.  They return to the court on Wednesday to play Itasca Community College.

                    

Kaelynn Kudis

Fr. / Middle Hitter

Zim, MN

 

 

Kaelynn Kudis, freshman middle hitter for Vermilion Community College, earned the North Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week award.  The Zim, MN native tallied 26 digs and 3 blocks, while also putting down 22 kills and serving an ace in her team's win over rival Mesabi Range College last week.

Vermilion Community College is 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the North Division.  The Ironwomen will return to action at Oak Hills on Tuesday and then play at home against Rainy River on Thursday.

Naomi Bollman (Outside Hitter, Vermilion CC): 20 kills, 6 service aces, 16 digs, and 2 blocks in 4 sets.

Chloe Kuznia (Setter, Northland CTC): 32 assists, 4 kills, 8 digs, and an ace serve.
