US Marines MCAC Weekly Soccer Honors: Week of September 27 - October 3

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly soccer awards for the week of September 27 - October 3.  These awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines. Rochester Community and Technical College goalkeeper Fatima Sanchez Hernandez has been named the Women's Soccer Goalkeeper-of-the-Week following her 14-save week and getting her 4th shutout of the season.   Mia Pierre from Rochester Community and Technical College claims the Field Athlete-of-the-Week after scoring two goals and assisting on another to help her Yellowjackets defeat #10 Madison and Anoka-Ramsey last week.

In MCAC Men's Soccer, Jose Valladares from Riverland Community College scored three goals in two games last week to earn the Men's Soccer Field Athlete-of-the-Week honor.  Teammate Lucas Evenson earns the Men's Soccer Goalkeeper-of-the-Week as he allowed only one goal in two games and saved 10 shots.

Goalkeeper and Field Player of the Week

 

 

Fatima Sanchez Hernandez

Fatima Sanchez Hernandez, goalkeeper at Rochester Community and Technical College, added another shutout win to her record, the fourth of her season and 10th of her career, while also knocking off the #10 ranked team in the nation to earn the MCAC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper-of-the-Week award. The sophomore from Banning, CA saved 14 shots in 16 attempts throughout her 180 minutes of action last week.  She is now 6-2 on the season.

With wins over #10 Madison College and Anoka-Ramsey last week, the Yellowjackets remain undefeated in MCAC play (3-0) and have a 6-2 overall record.  They return to the pitch tonight when they take on Faith Baptist Bible College at home.

                    

Mia Pierre

The MCAC Women's Soccer Field Player-of-the-Week honor was awarded to Mia Pierre, from Rochester Community and Technical College. Pierre, a freshman forward from St. Charles, MN, scored two goals and assisted on another one to lead her team to wins over #10 Madison College and MCAC rival Anoka-Ramsey Community College.  On three shots, Pierre placed two in the net, and now has eight goals in eight games this season. 

Rochester Community and Technical College is 6-2 overall and 3-0 in MCAC play, and they play at home tonight against Faith Baptist Bible College.

Lucas Evenson, goalkeeper for Riverland Community College, earns this week's Goalkeeper-of-the-Week award after giving up only one goal in two games through the last week. He had 10 saves in those two games, with six of them coming in a shutout win over Bethany Lutheran College JV.  His four saves in the lone conference game secured the victory in the I-90 rivalry with Minnesota West.

Riverland Community College is now 6-4-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in MCAC play. The Blue Devils next travel to Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Wednesday.

 

Jose Valladares

The MCAC Men's Soccer Field Athlete-of-the-Week is Jose Valladares, freshman midfielder for Riverland Community College.  Valladares, an Austin, MN product scored 3 goals on six shots-on-goal to help his team secure two wins last week. Valladares took 14 shots during the week, and has six goals and three assists on the season. 

The Blue Devil's are now 6-4-1 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0-1.  They travel north to take on the Golden Rams of Anoka-Ramsey on Wednesday.
