US Marines MCAC Weekly Volleyball Honors: Week of October 4 - 10

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly volleyball awards for the week of October 4 - 10. The weekly volleyball awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Following their epic 5-set battle last week, #4 Minnesota State -Fergus Falls and #3 Rochester Community and Technical College each have an athlete earn one of the weekly awards for the MCAC South DivisionBailey Marty, Minnesota State Community and Technical College's libero, claims the MCAC South Defensive Player-of-the-Week award for the third consecutive week by entering the 1,000 career dig club when she dug up 85 balls in her 10 sets.  Outside hitter turned middle hitter for the week, Alexis Simpson, has earned the MCAC South Offensive Player-of-the-Week award after racking up 46 kills in 11 sets and serving eight aces for her Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjackets.

Vermilion Community College middle hitter, Kaelynn Kudis, earned the MCAC North Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week award as she hit .419 on the week knocking down 47 kills and serving up 3 aces in her 10 sets last week.  Sophia Christofferson, setter and defensive specialist for Mesabi Range College, earned the MCAC North Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week award with 50 digs and 4 blocks in her nine sets during the week.

Alexis Simpson

Caledonia, MN

 

 

#3 Rochester Community and Technical College outside hitter, Alexis Simpson, has earned this week's South Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week award after putting down 46 kills on 92 swings and hitting .348 on the week. The freshman from Caledonia, MN, was called to step into a middle hitter role for the week when her teammates weren't able to play, and Simpson did it in style.  She served 8 aces and assisted on 3 kills during her team's three matches, helping her team go 2-1 last week. 

RCTC is now 15-6 on the season and 11-1 in the South Division.  The Yellowjackets travel to Riverland Community College to play on Wednesday.

                    

Bailey Marty

So. / Libero

Chokio, MN

 

 

 

Bailey Marty, sophomore libero for #4 Minnesota State Community and Technical College, has been named the South Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the third consecutive week.  The Chokio, MN native dug 85 balls in 10 sets, averaging 8.50 digs per set.  She surpassed the 1,000 career dig mark with her 46 digs in Friday's matchup with RCTC and currently holds the M State record for career digs. Marty also had 4 service aces last week. 

M State - Fergus Falls is now 12-4 overall and 10-1 in the South Division.  They hit the road on Wednesday to take on rival St. Cloud Technical and Community College.

Mackay Williams (Setter, Century College): 117 assists and 11 aces with 46 digs and 8 kills.

Brooke Hovland (Outside Hitter, MSFF): 29 kills and .214 hitting efficiency.

Allison Fritz (Libero, SCTCC): 50 digs and 2 aces in 6 sets helping her team to a 3-0 record on the week.

Kiley Nihart (Libero, RCTC): 70 digs and 10 aces in 11 sets.  Dug 35 balls in match with MSFF.

Kaelynn Kudis

Fr. / Middle Hitter

Zim, MN

 

 

Kaelynn Kudis earns the MCAC North Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor after hitting .419 with 47 kills on 93 swings last week.  The Vermilion Community College middle hitter had 25 kills in her team's win over Itasca Community College. Kudis, a Zim, MN native, also served 3 aces and dug 51 balls while putting up 5 blocks.  She is averaging 3.73 kills per set and hitting .348 on the season.

Vermilion is now 7-5 overall and 5-4 in the North Division.  They return to the court on Wednesday to play at Mesabi Range College.

 

Sophia Christofferson

Fr. / Setter - Defensive Specialist

Virginia, MN

 

 

Sophia Christofferson earns the MCAC North Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor for Mesabi Range College. The freshman setter/defensive specialist from Virginia, MN had 50 digs in her 9 sets and also served 4 aces and blocked 4 balls to help her team go 1-1 last week. She also assisted on 32 kills and put down 3 balls herself.  

At 4-13 overall and 4-5 in the MCAC North, the Norse return to action on Wednesday when they host Vermilion Community College.

Winter Sainio (Middle Hitter, Mesabi Range): 31 kills and 5 aces in 9 sets, hitting .229 on the week.

Jaime Johnson (Outside Hitter, Central Lakes College): 21 kills, 6 aces, and 11 digs.

Thea Baier (Setter, Vermilion CC): 92 assists, 25 digs, and 4 aces in 10 sets.

Chloe Kuznia (Setter, Northland CTC): 85 assists, 13 kills, 25 digs, and 3 service aces.

Kylie Solheim (Libero, Northland CTC): 40 digs in 2 matches.
