US Marines MCAC Weekly Soccer Honors: Week of October 11 - 17

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly soccer awards for the week of October 11 - 17.  These awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Rochester Community and Technical College forward Mia Pierre has been named the Women's Soccer Field Player-of-the-Week after scoring three goals and assisting on another in the Yellowjackets 6-0 win over conference foe lake Superior college.  No players were nominated for Women's Soccer Goalkeeper-of-the-Week.

Riverland Community College goalkeeper, Lucas Evenson, saved eight of the ten shots made on goal last week to be named the Men's Goalkeeper-of-the-Week.  Teammate Gio Castillo, was named the Field Player-of-the-Week after his hat trick, scoring 3 goals in 6 shots in his team's 5-0 victory over Lake Superior College.

The MCAC Women's Soccer Field Player-of-the-Week honor is awarded to Mia Pierre, freshman forward for Rochester Community and Technical College. The St. Charles, MN native scored three goals in her six shots, and also had one assist in her team's 6-0 win over Lake Superior College.  With the win, the Yellowjackets secured the top spot in the Region XIII Tournament. 

Rochester Community and Technical College is 8-2 overall and 4-0 in MCAC play, and they now advance to the Region XIII Championship Game on Saturday, October 23 in Rochester.

Lucas Evenson

Austin, MN

 

Lucas Evenson, freshman goalkeeper from Austin, MN, had another strong week in the net for Riverland Community College, registering 5 saves in a 3-2 win over St. Olaf and another 3 saves in his third shutout of the season in a 5-0 win over Lake Superior College.  In his last 8 appearances, Evenson has 41 saves while only giving up 8 goals.  With his effort, Evenson earns this week's Goalkeeper of the Week honor.

Riverland Community College is now 9-5-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the MCAC.  The Blue Devils claim the #2 seed in the Region XIII Tournament, and play Lake Superior College at home on Wednesday.

 

                    

Gio Castillo

The MCAC Men's Soccer Field Player-of-the-Week honor was earned by Gio Castillo, freshman midfielder for Riverland Community College. The Rochester, MN native had a hat trick, scoring three goals in six shots last week in his team's 5-0 win over Lake Superior College. Castillo now has 5 goals on the season along with his 5 assists. 

Riverland Community College is 9-5-1 overall and 4-1-1 in MCAC play, and they now play at home in the semifinals of the Region XIII Tournament on Wednesday.
