Alexandria, MN -
After completing the fall league that saw record participation, MCAC Clay Target programs wrapped up their seasons on Tuesday in Alexandria, MN with the MCAC Clay Target Championship. Bismarck State College (ND) made the long trip eastward well worth their time as they returned home with the team championship, scoring 487 points. Ridgewater College claimed the runner-up plaque with 480 points plus the tiebreaker, and Alexandria Tech finished third with 480 points as well.
Ayden Kautzman, from Bismarck State College, had the lone perfect score, hitting all 100 of his targets.
207 participants from 14 MCAC programs participated in the one-day championship that was held at the Alexandria Shooting Park. Two sessions of shooting were held with each participant firing at 50 clays in each session.
MCAC Executive Director, Kurt Kohler, said of the event, "What an incredible day we had to enjoy this Clay Target Championship. The weather was beautiful, and the USA Clay Target League and Alexandria Shooting Park staff both did a fantastic job in organizing and operating this event. I want to thank Tom and Cindy Townsend and all the staff at Alexandria Shooting Park for their hospitality and work they put into making our championship a successful one. Jason Kelvie, from USA Clay Target League, organized and kept the event running smoothly throughout the day, and he and John Nelson from USA Clay Target League have been great to work with this season. Their efforts are very much appreciated!"
The MCAC Clay Target Championship wasn't all about hitting clay targets though. Participants were able to enjoy lunch provided by Hansen's Festival Concessions, and they could spend their down time engaged with the U.S. Marines.
"The Marines have been a wonderful partner of the MCAC for several years," Kohler stated, "and to watch the positive way they interact with our students embodies the mission of the Marines. Their leadership is instrumental for the MCAC, the NJCAA, and our nation, and I appreciate the time they spent on Tuesday engaging our students."
