US Marines MCAC Weekly Volleyball Honors:  Week of October 18 - 24

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly volleyball awards for the week of October 18-24. The weekly volleyball awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines. 

Minnesota State -Fergus Falls middle hitter, Anya Maack, earns the MCAC South Defensive Player-of-the-Week award after racking up a total of 20 blocks and four aces last week.  St. Cloud Technical and Community College and Century College each have an athlete earn a share of the MCAC South Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor.  Brynn Johnson, SCTCC middle hitter, put down 16 kills with no errors in five sets; while Emma Crandell, Century's middle hitter, had 46 kills and 12 aces serves in her 12 sets last week.

Central Lakes College setter, Grace Peabody, earned the MCAC North Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor with her 10.86 assist per set average last week, and Chloe Kuznia from Northland Community and Techncial College earns a share of that award as well after averaging 10.33 assists per set while also hitting .272 on the week.  There were no MCAC North Defensive Player-of-the-Week nominees this week.

MCAC Volleyball - South Division

Brynn Johnson

Fr. / Middle Hitter

Paynesville, MN

 

 

St. Cloud Technical and Community College middle hitter, Brynn Johnson, has earned this week's South Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week award after putting down 16 kills with no errors in 43 swings (.372 hitting efficiency). The freshman from Paynesville, MN, averaged 3.2 kills per set while helping her team earn two more wins.  

St. Cloud Tech is now 16-5 on the season and 12-4 in the South Division.  The Cyclones next compete at the Region XIIIA Tournament in Fergus Falls on Friday evening.  They are the #3 seed in that tournament.  

                    

Emma Crandell

Fr. / Middle Hitter

Forest Lake, MN

 

 

 

Emma Crandell, freshman middle hitter for Century College, brings home a share of the South Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor.  The Forest Lake, MN native had 46 kills and 12 service aces helping her team secure the #4 seed in the Region XIIIA Tournament.  Crandell hit .202 for the week, and put together a special performance against #4 RCTC when she had 18 kills.  Crandell also led her team in blocks with 11 and dug 36 balls.   

Century College is now 11-11 overall and 8-8 in the South Division.  They take the court again on Friday at the Region XIIIA Tournament in Fergus Falls when they match up with #1 seed Minnesota State - Fergus Falls. 

 

 

Anya Maack

So. / Middle Hitter

Breckenridge, MN

 

This week's MCAC South Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor is awarded to #4 Minnesota State Community and Technical College's Anya Maack.  The sophomore middle hitter from Breckenridge, MN, totaled 20 blocks (16 solo and 4 assisted) on the week with 9 of them coming in a match against Minnesota West. In addition, Maack hit .279 on the week with 34 kills.

Maack and her teammates claimed the #1 seed in the Region XIIIA Tournament, and host Century College in the first match of that tournament on Friday.  The Spartans are 17-5 on the season and 15-1 in the MCAC.

Grace Peabody

Brainerd, MN

 

 

Grace Peabody earns the MCAC North Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor after compiling 76 assists and 4 aces during her 7 sets last week. The Central Lakes College setter averaged 10.86 assists per set and also had 28 digs and 3 kills.  Peabody, a Brainerd, MN native, had 48 assists, 3 aces, and 24 digs against the #4 ranked M State Spartans.

The Raiders are now 19-9 overall and remain undefeated in the North Division at 11-0.  They host the Region XIIIB Tournament on Friday with their first round opponent still to be determined.

 

Chloe Kuznia

Grygla, MN

 

 

Chloe Kuznia earns a share of the the MCAC North Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor after averaging 10.33 assists per set last week.  The Northland setter and Grygla, MN product tallied 31 assists in three sets while also putting down 3 kills and serving two aces.  

At 10-10 overall and 8-4 in the MCAC North, the Pioneers take the #2 seed into the Region XIIIB Tournament on Friday at Central Lakes College.  Their opponent will be determined later tonight. 

Other Notable Offensive Performers

Kaelynn Kudis (Middle Hitter, Vermilion CC): 28 kills and .229 hitting efficiency in 7 sets with 4 aces.

Thea Baier (Setter, Vermilion CC): 62 assists, 3 kills, and 2 aces in 7 sets.
