US Marines MCAC Week 9 Football Honors Announced

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its week 9 (playoff quarterfinals) football awards for the week of October 18 - 24.  The MCAC Football Player-of-the-Week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines.

Vermilion Community College wide receiver, Terrence Isaac Jr., may have only had two catches, but he scored on both of those receptions and averaged 74 yards per catch to earn the Offensive Player-of-the-Week award.  Anthony Richmond, running back for Central Lakes College, rushed for 93 yards on 14 carries and scored twice to earn an Offensive Player-of-the-Week as well.

Minnesota State Community and Technical College - Fergus Falls has two players named in this week's awards. Cheo Trotter, a Spartans linebacker, earns a Defensive Player-of-the-Week award with his 15 tackles, 3 for a loss, in his team's last-second win on Sunday; and scoring the winning points in that victory was kicker/punter Carsen McKnight with his 47 yard field goal to earn the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week award.

Itasca Community College defensive end, Ja'Sion Greathouse, earned a Defensive Player-of-the-Week award with his 9 tackles and 5.5 sacks on the day, as well as recovering two fumbles.

Each week throughout the 2021 season, two offensive, two defensive, and a special teams athlete will be named players-of-the-week, based on nominations submitted by MCAC member football programs.

Offensive Players-of-the-Week

 

 

Terrence Isaac Jr.

Fr. / Wide Receiver

Dallas, TX

 

 

Vermilion Community College wide receiver, Terrence Isaac, showcased his talent on the two catches he made on Sunday.  The freshman from Dallas, TX racked up 148 receiving yards on those two catches and scored a touchdown on each catch.  Isaac Jr.'s long reception of the day was 81 yards, and for his performance he has earned an Offensive Player-of-the-Week award. Issac Jr. ends the season with 742 reception yards on 43 catches this season, and has scored six touchdowns.

The Ironmen lost to Itasca Community College in the MCAC Quarterfinals and end the season at 2-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play.  

                    

Anthony Richmond

Wayzata, MN

 

 

Anthony Richmond, freshman running back for Central Lakes College, has been named an Offensive Player-of-the-Week.  Richmond rushed for 93 yards on 14 carries, averaging 6.6 yards per carry, in the Raiders loss on Sunday.  The Wayzata, MN product also scored two touchdowns and had a long run of 35 yards.

Central Lakes College ends their season with a 3-6 overall record and 3-4 record in the MCAC. 

Other Notable Offensive Performers

Jonathan Griffin (WR, M State - Fergus Falls): 5 receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Teon Gardner (QB, Itasca CC): 17-29 for 240 yards and 3 touchdowns; along with 2 carries for 24 yards.

Defensive Players-of-the-Week

 

Cheo Trotter

Brooklyn Center, MN

 

 

Cheo Trotter, freshman linebacker for Minnesota State Community and Technical College, earns a Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor with his 15 tackles, three of which were solo tackles and 12 were assisted.  The Brooklyn Center, MN native had three tackles for total losses of 8 yards on the day in his team's last second win in the MCAC Quarterfinals. 

The Spartans are now 5-4 on the season and 3-4 in conference play.  They travel to North Dakota State College of Science on Sunday to play in the MCAC playoff semifinals.  

 

Ja'Sion Greathouse

Fr. / DE

Chicago, IL

 

 

Itasca Community College freshman defensive end, Ja'Sion Greathouse, had 9 tackles, three of which resulted in a loss of yardage, in the Vikings MCAC playoff quarterfinal win on Sunday.  The Chicago, IL native also had 5.5 sacks and recovered two fumbles to earn a Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor. 

The Vikings are now 8-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.  Itasca hosts Minnesota West on Sunday in the MCAC playoff semifinals.

Daemond Gibbons (DB, NDSCS): Seven tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble return, with a pass break up

Charles Dressel (LB, Central Lakes): eight tackles, two for a loss, and two interceptions

Carsen McKnight

Coalville, UT

 

Minnesota State Community and Technical College freshman kicker and punter, Carsen McKnight, was 2 for 2 on field goals with a game winning 47 yard boot, and 3 for 3 on extra points to earn the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.  McKnight, from Coalville, UT, also had three punts for 80 yards with a long of 34 yards.

The Spartans move to 5-4 on the season and are 3-4 in the MCAC.  Minnesota State travels to NDSCS on Sunday to play in the MCAC playoff semifinals.
