U.S. Marines MCAC Winter Sports Athletes of the Week Announced: Week of November 15-21

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly athlete-of-the-week awards for the week of November 15 - 21.  The weekly athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines. 

Rainy River Community College forward Quelyn Nelson shot 81% from the field scoring 38 points and snatching 22 rebounds in his team's two wins last week.  Nelson earns this weeks MCAC North Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor.

Freshman guard for Mesabi Range College, Alani Pettis, earns this week's MCAC North Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award with her 24 point scoring performance in her team's 67-54 win over NJCAA DII opponent, Gogebic Community College.

Malik CooperRiverland Community College freshman guard, scored 23 points after hitting seven 3-PT field goals in his 18 minutes of action to earn the MCAC South Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award.

In her team's first game of the season, guard Mackenzie Foss (Minnesota State - Fergus Falls) scored 27 points and had 5 steals to earn her the MCAC South Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor.

This week, there were no submissions for MCAC Wrestling Athlete-of-the-Week.

Rainy River Community College freshman power forward, Quelyn Nelson, scored 38 points going 17 of 22 from the field for an 81% shooting percentage in his 45 minutes of play last week to earn the MCAC North Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award.  The Minneapolis, MN product also ripped down 22 rebounds, had 2 assists, and blocked 3 balls in his team's two wins.

The Voyageurs are now 2-0 on the season and play again on Tuesday evening at Mesabi Range College.

Alani Pettis, freshman guard for Mesabi Range College, has been named the MCAC North Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week after helping her team secure a 67-54 road win over Gogebic Community College.  The Minneapolis, MN native scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and 3 steals, with 10 assists and a block in her 39 minutes of play.  This was Pettis's first triple double of her collegiate career.

Mesabi Range is now 1-1 on the season and returns to the court on Tuesday to host Rainy River Community College.

Rodney Oliver (MBB, Forward, Central Lakes College): 42 points, 14 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks in 41 minutes.

Deidrich Kemp (MBB, Forward, Itasca CC): 50 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block in 90 minutes.

Cierra Lindquist (WBB, Point Guard, Rainy River CC): 16 points, 11 rebounds, 20 assists, 13 steals in 62 minutes.

Malik Cooper, Riverland Community College's freshman guard, went 8 for 15 from the field and hit 7 of his 12 three-point attempts scoring 23 points for the Blue Devils.  He picks up the MCAC South Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor.  The Miami, FL product also had a rebound and 2 assists in his teams 97-57 win over Luther College.

Riverland is now 2-0, and they take the court again on Tuesday at Vermilion Community College.

Minnesota State Community and Technical College shooting guard, Mackenzie Foss, lit it up in her 33 minutes of action last week, putting up 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to earn the MCAC South Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award.  The freshman from Battle Lake, MN also had 2 assists and 5 steals en route to a 70-50 win over Central Christian College, their first of the season.

The Spartans are now 1-0 and play again Tuesday evening at Northland Community and Technical College.

Keivonte Watts (MBB, Shooting Guard, Rochester CTC): 18 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists, and a steal in 22 minutes.

Brody Sohn (MBB, Guard, MN West CTC): 12 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals in 31 minutes.

Cayli Miles (WBB, Guard, Riverland CC): 23 points, 1 rebound, 3 steals, 4 assists, and 1 block in 25 minutes.
