U.S. Marines MCAC Winter Sports Athletes-of-the-Week Announced: Week of November 22-28

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its athlete-of-the-week awards for the week of November 22-28.  The weekly athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Rodney Oliver, freshman forward, led his Central Lakes College Raiders to a 3-0 record during the week and earning him the MCAC North Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor.  Oliver scored 60 points and shot 74% from the field in his three games.

Rainy River Community College freshman strong forward, Marlandria Hebert, earns the week's MCAC North Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award.  Hebert scored 21 points and pulled down 24 rebounds in the Voyageurs two games last week.

After shooting 80% from the field and shooting perfect from the charity stripe, Quentin Williams is this week's MCAC South Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week.  The Rochester Community and Technical College sophomore also grabbed 10 rebounds and had 2 assists in the Yellowjackets 78-61 win over Madison Area Technical College.

Mikayla Kanenwisher, the freshman point guard for Anoka-Ramsey Community College, earns the MCAC South Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor.  Kanenwisher scored 27 points and had 8 steals in the Golden Rams two wins during the week.

This week's MCAC Wrestling Athlete-of-the-Week honor goes to Jake Rau of Itasca Community College for his accomplishments on and off the mat.  Rau's successful classroom and athletic performance has paid huge dividends for him.  In his off-week, Rau visited the nation's capital where he was offered athletic and academic scholarships to cover the majority of his college education at American University.

Central Lakes College freshman forward, Rodney Oliver, hit 28 of 38 shots from the field (74%) and scored 60 points in the Raiders three wins last week.  The Milwaukee, WI native also had 23 rebounds, 6 steals, 7 blocks, and an assist in 76 minutes of action. Oliver is this week's MCAC North Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week. 

The Raiders won all three games last week to boost their record to 6-1 on the season, and they return to the court on Friday at Riverland Community College.

Marlandria Hebert, freshman strong forward for Rainy River Community College, has been named the MCAC North Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week.  The Orange, Texas standout scored 21 points and grabbed 24 rebounds and 3 steals in her 64 minutes of play.

Rainy River is now 5-1 on the season and returns to the hardwood on Friday at Rochester Community and Technical College.

Quelyn Nelson (MBB, Forward, Rainy River Community College): 53 points, 32 rebounds, 8 steals, and 7 assists in 89 minutes.

Quentin Williams, sophomore strong forward for Rochester Community and Technical College, hit 4 of 5 shots, and went 1 for 1 from behind the 3-PT arc and 4 for 4 from the free throw line, to score 13 points for the Yellowjackets.  He earns this week's MCAC South Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor.  Hailing from Zion, IL, Williams also had 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block in his teams 78-61 win over Madison Area Technical College.

The Yellowjackets are now 2-1, and they take the court again on Friday when they host Rainy River Community College.

Mikayla Kanenwisher

Elk River, MN

 

 

 

Anoka-Ramsey Community College point guard, Mikayla Kanenwisher, scored 27 points in 71 minutes of action while leading her team to two wins last week.  The freshman from Elk River earns the MCAC South Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award.  Kanenwisher also grabbed 14 rebounds and 8 steals, blocked 4 shots, and assisted on 4 baskets. 

The Golden Rams remain undefeated at 5-0 and play again on Friday when they host Viterbo University JV.

Cleveland Bedgood (MBB, Guard, Riverland CC): 31 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, and two steals in 41 minutes.

Ravyn Miles (WBB, PG, Rochester CTC): 9 points, 3 rebounds, 12 assists, and 5 steals in 24 minutes.

Jake Rau

Fr. / Heavyweight

Medford, WI

 

 

 

Jake Rau,  heavyweight wrestler for Itasca Community College, earns this week's MCAC Wrestling Athlete-of-the-Week honor.  Rau went 2-0 with both wins by fall during the Itasca Wrestle-Off.

Rau is more than a great wrestler though. Besides being team captain for the Vikings, Rau recently embarked on a trip to the east coast to visit with American University, an NCAA DI program, where he received both athletic and academic scholarships to cover nearly all of his college expenses. His hard work and dedication on the mat and in the classroom models the mission of the MCAC, and Rau is a great example of what it means to be a student-athlete.

Itasca Community College returns to the mat on Sunday when they compete at the Dragon Open in Moorhead, MN.
