U.S. Marines MCAC Baseball Athletes of the Week: Week of March 28 - April 3

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball athlete-of-the-week awards for the week of March 28 - April 3.  The baseball athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Juan Alcoverde, freshman pitcher for Rainy River Community College, earns the MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week, his first of the season. Alcoverde earned two wins, tossing 14 innings and only giving up 5 runs and striking out 17 last week.  Robert Rodriguez, sophomore 1st baseman for Hibbing Community College, hit .800 with 4 doubles and scored 5 runs to earn the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week.

St. Cloud Technical and Community College's sophomore pitcher, Drew Beier, is the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week.  Beier threw six innings in his one appearance, giving up three hits and striking out 9 in his shut-out win.  Eli Roberts, Central Lakes College outfielder, went 6 for 11 from the plate with a double and three triples to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week.

Earning his first MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week award, Manny Alonzo, the freshman pitcher for Western Technical College, threw 13 innings and picked up two wins, striking out 19 while only giving up 1 earned run. Rochester Community & Technical College 2nd baseman, Zebastian Bolduc, picks up the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award. Going 8 for 9 with an .889 batting average, Bolduc hit a double, a triple, and a grand slam, along with stealing two bases.

Juan Alcoverde

Tucson, AZ

 

 

 

Rainy River Community College freshman pitcher, Juan Alcoverde, appeared in two games during the week, picking up two wins to extend his record to 3-1 on the season.  The Tucson, AZ native struck out 17 over his 14 innings of work, giving up only 5 runs and 10 hits.  He put together a weekly ERA of 2.50.  Alcoverde is this week's MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week. 

The Voyageurs are 5-11 on the season and next play at Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Saturday.

 

Robert Rodriguez

So. / 1B

Houston, TX

 

 

 

Robert Rodriguez has been named the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week. The sophomore first baseman for Hibbing Community College went 8 for 10 (.800) from the plate, with 4 doubles and 2 walks. The Houston, TX product scored five times and drove in 2 runs while also stealing a base. 

Hibbing is now 2-9 on the season, and they return to action on Wednesday at St. Cloud Technical & Community College.    

 

Other Notable Performers

Ryan Vondracek (LHP, Hibbing CC): 1-0 in his 1 start, 7 IP, gave up 4 hits and struck out 6, 2.57 ERA.

Drew Beier

Foley, MN

 

 

 

Drew Beier, sophomore pitcher at St. Cloud Technical & Community College, threw a 6-inning shutout in his one outing of the week.  The Foley, MN pitcher earns the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  Beier scattered 3 hits, walking two, and striking out 9 batters while compiling a 0.00 ERA on the week.  In addition, he went 7 for 13 from the plate with two doubles, 3 RBI, and two stolen bases. 

The Cyclones are 7-4 on the season, and they take the field again on Wednesday when they host Hibbing Community College. 

 

Eli Roberts

Brainerd, MN

 

 

 

Central Lakes College outfielder, Eli Roberts, went 6 for 11 from the plate for a .545 batting average and picked up at least one hit in each of his 4 games during the week to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Brainerd, MN scored 5 runs and had 2 RBI, pounding a double and 3 triples, while also stealing two bases.

The Raiders are 11-8, and next play again on Wednesday at St. Scholastica JV.

Mason Argir (LHP, Central Lakes College): 1-0 in one appearance, 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 4 K, 6 BB, 1.50 weekly ERA.

Cal Schmitz (C, MN State - Fergus Falls): 4 for 7, .571 avg., 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 3 runs, 1 walk.

Manny Alonzo, pitcher for Western Technical College, earns this week's MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Miami, FL went 2-0 in his two starts, throwing 13 innings and giving up only 1 earned run and 7 hits while striking out 19. Alonzo put together a 0.69 ERA for the week.

Western Technical College is 9-16 on the season, and they return to the field on Saturday when they host Hibbing Community College.

 

Zebastian Bolduc

Tampa Bay, FL

 

 

Rochester Community and Technical College 2nd baseman, Zebastian Bolduc, put together a phenomenal two-game outing, going 8 for 9 from the plate (.889 avg.) with a double, a triple, and a grand slam homerun to go along with his five singles. The freshman from Tampa Bay, FL earns the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week honor.  Bolduc also scored five runs with 8 RBI and two stolen bases. 

The Yellowjackets are 7-7 and play again on Wednesday when they host St. Mary's JV.
