The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball athlete-of-the-week awards for the week of May 9 - 15. The baseball athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines.
Mesabi Range College right-handed pitcher, Gabriel Soto, has been named the MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week, throwing 9 innings of one run ball and striking out 6. Daniel Wensloff, sophomore outfielder for Itasca Community College, went 2 for 6 with a double and a home run to earn the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week honor.
Grady Fuchs, St. Cloud Technical and Community College right-handed pitcher, is the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week. Fuchs threw 9 innings, giving up only 2 hits and no runs while striking out 10. Kyle Baker, 3rd baseman for Central Lakes College, went 3 for 7 from the plate with a double, a home run, and 4 RBI to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week.
Rochester Community and Technical College athletes sweep the MCAC South awards. The Pitcher-of-the-Week honor is earned by right-handed pitcher, Drew Simmons. Simmons threw 9 innings of shutout ball, scattering only 5 hits throughout the win. Simmons' teammate and RCTC right fielder, Blake Schilling, picks up the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award. Going 7 for 12 with a .583 batting average, Schilling hit two doubles and a home run while driving in 4.

Daniel Wensloff has been named the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week. The sophomore outfielder for Itasca Community College went 2 for 6 from the plate with a double and a home run. The Roseau, MN product scored three runs and drove in another one while also stealing a base and walking once. The Vikings ended their season at 20-22 overall and 7-3 in conference play.

Grady Fuchs, right-handed pitcher at St. Cloud Technical and Community College, went 1-0 in his one appearance during the week, giving up only two hits in 9 innings. The Paynesville, MN freshman earns the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week honor. Fuchs struck out 10 and walked only 3 without giving up a run. The Cyclones advanced to the Region XIII Final Four to play on Thursday, and is 21-11 overall and 11-5 in MCAC Central play. |

Central Lakes College third baseman, Kyle Baker, went 3 for 7 from the plate for a .429 batting average and drove in 4 runs to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week honor. The freshman from Benson, AZ hit a home run and a double, while scoring two runs and walking once. Baker's 3-run homer in the bottom of the first proved to be the game winner for the Raiders. The Raiders are 28-13 overall and 13-3 in MCAC Central action. They next play again on Thursday in the Region XIII Final Four in St. Cloud, MN. |

Drew Simmons, right-handed pitcher for Rochester Community and Technical College, earns this week's MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor. The freshman from Stewartville, MN threw 9 innings of shutout work in his one win last week. Simmons scattered 5 hits, throwing 63 strikes out of 101 pitches and compiling a 0.00 ERA for the week.
