The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly football athletes of the week awards for the week of October 23-29.
North Dakota State College of Science wide receiver, Trevion Carothers, had four receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown to earn an Offensive Player-of-the-Week award. Carothers helped his Wildcats team to a 21-17 win over #4 ranked Minnesota North College - Mesabi Range in the MCAC Playoff Semifinals. Micha Hobin, Rochester Community and Technical College running back, carried the ball 14 times for 134 yards and two touchdowns to earn the other Offensive Player-of-the-Week award. Hobin led the Yellowjackets offense to a 21-0 win over Central Lakes College in the other MCAC Playoff Semifinals game.
Martell Williams, linebacker for Rochester Community and Technical College, had 12 tackles, three for a loss of yardage, a quarterback sack, and a pass breakup to earn a Defensive Player-of-the-Week award. North Dakota State College of Science defensive end, Jaylin Nieman-Burnett, earned the other Defensive Player-of-the-Week award. Nieman-Burnett had 5 total tackles, three of which were solo tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and two quarterback hits.
Minnesota North College - Mesabi Range kicker, Kyle Attard, earned the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week award. Attard made his one field goal attempt, a 27-yard kick, and converted on the two extra points he attempted. His five points helped keep his Norse within striking distance of the win against #3 North Dakota State College of Science. Mesabi Range eventually lost the game 21-17.
