The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports weekly awards for the week of December 4-10.
Regardless of the competition level, Destiny Piekarski, forward for Minnesota North College - Rainy River, produces double-doubles this season. Earning her second MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award, Piekarski scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against #1 ranked Rochester Community & Technical College. She added two assists and two blocks in the Voyaguers' lone game of the week. Minnesota North College - Vermilion guard Quyavant Douglas leads the MCAC in scoring, adding 57 points to his season total last weekend as he helped the Ironhawks pick up two more wins and claim his second MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award this season. Douglas added 19 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals to his stat line in his 61 minutes of action.
Olivia Hayenga, guard for Minnesota West Community and Technical College, shot 44% from the field, scoring 36 points and ripping down 28 rebounds to earn the week's MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week. Hayenga had 12 assists, 10 steals, and 7 blocks in the Lady Jays' two wins in the MCAC Women's Basketball Crossover. Against Mesabi Range, Hayenga put together a triple-double (29 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 steals). Micah Adkins, point guard for Anoka-Ramsey Community College, earned this week's MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award. Adkins scored 59 points and picked up 34 rebounds in the Golden Rams three games during the week while also adding nine assists, six steals, and four blocks. Adkins averaged a double-double with 19.8 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.
