2024 MCAC Softball Post-Season Honors Announced; Geschwill and Boos Named Players of the Year

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has announced the 2024 MCAC Softball All-Division awards and the All-MCAC Team.

Jenna Boos, a pitcher and infielder for St. Cloud Technical and Community College, has earned the 2024 South Division Softball Player-of-the-Year honor.  Boos made 24 appearances in the pitching circle, going 11-11 this season, throwing two shutouts, and striking out 118 batters with only 52 walks.  She gave up 81 earned runs over her 126 innings of work and held her opponents to a .266 batting average. Boos also had a .939 fielding percentage with 93 put-outs and 30 assists. At the plate, she hit .320 on the season, scoring 34 runs and driving in 30 runs. The freshman from Cold Spring, MN, was ranked third in the MCAC South Division in home runs with seven and 6th in the division in stolen bases with 19.

Jaimi Stejskal, head coach at Rochester Community and Technical College, and Greg Thorstad, head coach at St. Cloud Technical and Community College, were both named MCAC South Division Coaches-of-the-Year.  Coach Stejskal led her Yellowjackets' team to a share of the MCAC South Division title and a 19-18 overall record, 10-2 in the South Division. Her team also won the NJCAA District 13A Championship to qualify for the NJCAA National Tournament and will play in Chatanooga, TN, on May 22-25. Coach Thorstad led the Cyclones to a share of the MCAC South Division title and a 20-19 overall record, 12-2 in the MCAC South. His Cyclones team concluded their season in the semifinals of the NJCAA District 13A Tournament last weekend.

 

Central Lakes College freshman pitcher and infielder, Kaitlyn Geschwill, was named the MCAC North Division Player-of-the-Year.  Geschwill made 21 appearances in the pitching circle, starting 18 of them, and went 12-8 on the season. She ranked first in the MCAC North Division in wins and threw four shutouts, striking out 147 batters over 107.1 innings of work. Geschwill gave up 88 total hits and only 30 earned runs this season, compiling a 1.96 season ERA. Offensively, in her 142 plate appearances, Geschwill hit .372 on the season and .560 in conference play, scoring 47 runs and driving in 26. The Pequot Lakes, MN, native hit eight doubles, four triples, and one home run in 2024, and defensively had 33 put-outs, 46 assists, and put together a fielding percentage of .929.

Central Lakes College head softball coach Ray Austin earned the MCAC North Division Coach-of-the-Year honor.  Austin's Raiders team went 26-14 on the season and put together an undefeated record in the MCAC North, going 16-0. The Raiders made it to the NJCAA District 13B Championship Game, dropping a tough game to the #1 ranked North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats. Austin led his Raiders to a share of the MCAC North Division title and now awaits a possible at-large selection to the NJCAA National Tournament.

 

MCAC Softball was split into two divisions during the 2024 season with Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Minnesota West Community and Technical College, Ridgewater College, Rochester Community and Technical College, and St. Cloud Technical and Community College competing in the South Division.  Central Lakes College, Minnesota North College-Hibbing, Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range, Minnesota North College-Rainy River, Minnesota North College-Vermilion, and Northland Community and Technical College competed in the North Division.

Following the conclusion of the regular season, MCAC softball coaches nominated and voted on players from each division to be named to the first or second team of the respective divisions.  The top-ranked player from each division was named the Player of the Year.  The coach of the year was also voted on for each division.  

The first team members from each all-division team were also named to the All-MCAC Team.
