Rochester, MN –
The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) office has announced the MCAC Baseball All-Division awards for the 2024 season.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, MCAC baseball coaches nominated and ranked the players for each division - North, Central, and South. The top players from each division, based on rankings at their position, were then named to the MCAC All-Division Team. Coaches in each division also selected their Player-of-the-Year and Coach-of-the-Year.
In the MCAC North Division, Connor Hoyt, a sophomore outfielder and left-handed pitcher from Northland Community and Technical College, was selected as the Player of the Year. Justin Lamppa, head coach at Minnesota North College - Itasca, was named the Coach of the Year.
Hoyt hit .353 on the season with six doubles and a triple. He had an on-base percentage of .408 with 24 RBI and 26 runs scored. On the mound, Hoyt made 11 appearances with eight starts, finishing the season with a 4-3 record. Hoyt averaged 8.94 strikeouts per game and had an ERA of 4.65. Defensively, he had 68 put-outs and a .932 fielding percentage.
Coach Lamppa led his Vikings team to the MCAC North Division title, compiling a 27-17 overall record and a 15-5 record in the North Division.
Levy Lampert, a sophomore right fielder and right-handed pitcher from Alexandria Technical and Community College, earned the MCAC Central Division Player-of-the-Year award, and his head coach, Jason Fischer, was chosen as the Central Division Coach-of-the-Year.
Lampert went 3-0 with one save in his four appearances on the mound this season, averaging 11.77 strikeouts per game and compiling a 2.08 ERA. In the field, Lampert had a perfect fielding percentage with 28 put-outs and four assists on 32 chances. Offensively, he hit .392 with four home runs, 10 doubles, and a triple. Lampert drove in 24 runs and scored 29, walking 17 times, in his 103 plate appearances.
Coach Fischer led his Legends to their first outright Central Division title with a 27-12 overall record and a 17-3 record in Central Division play.
The MCAC South Division split their Player-of-the-Year honors between Asahi Sato, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Riverland Community College, and Seth Tierney, a freshman designated hitter and first baseman from Century College. Rochester Community and Technical College's head coach, Clark Jones, earned the South Division Coach-of-the-Year award.
Sato appeared in 10 games this season, starting all 10, and putting together a 6-3 record. He threw five complete games and had a season ERA of 3.44. In his 68.0 innings, Sato struck out 65 batters and allowed only four home runs and 27 walks. He pitched two shutouts this season, tops in the MCAC South Division.
Tierney made 205 plate appearances this season and hit 20 home runs and 11 doubles while driving in 78 runs and scoring 44 runs. He hit .376 on the season and had a slugging percentage of .786.
