The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its volleyball athlete of the week awards for the week of August 19-25.
Century College middle blocker Alexis Helmin started off the 2024 season like she ended her 2023 All-American campaign and, for her efforts, earned a South Division Offensive Athlete of the Week award. Helmin hit .319 with 42 kills over 16 sets, while serving 15 aces. She helped her Wood Ducks team to a 3-1 record to open the season. Brooklyn Fischer, St. Cloud Technical and Community College's middle blocker, had an equally impressive performance to earn a South Division Offensive Athlete of the Week award as well. Fischer hit .327 in her 13 sets with 52 kills on 110 swings. She also served three aces, helping her Cyclones team to a 4-0 start on the season. Madelyn Robillard, libero for Century College, earned the South Division Defensive Athlete of the Week honor after picking up 77 digs in her four matches against some of the top NJCAA DIII programs in the nation. Robillard also served 10 aces for the #2 ranked Wood Ducks.
Jerzie Gustafson, libero for Minnesota North College - Mesabi Range, was named the MCAC North Division Defensive Athlete of the Week. Gustafson dug 63 balls and had five service aces in her 13 sets. She averaged 4.85 digs per set as her Norse team opened the season with a 1-3 record. There were no nominations for the MCAC North Division Offensive Athlete of the Week award.
