The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its football athlete of the week awards for the week of September 2-8.
Minnesota West Community and Technical College quarterback Elijah Alexander earned an Offensive Player of the Week honor with his team's 40-26 win over #3 North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday. Alexander completed 18 of his 26 attempts, a 69% completion percentage. He threw for 314 yards with three touchdowns and currently leads the MCAC in passing yards per game, averaging 252.5. North Dakota State College of Science quarterback Jacob Mattick earned an Offensive Player of the Week award for the second straight week completing 18 of 34 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns. Mattick rushed three times for seven yards in the team's loss to Minnesota West.
Sammy Miller, linebacker for North Dakota State College of Science, had 14 total tackles, 11 solo and 3 assisted, with one tackle for a loss of yardage to earn a Defensive Player-of-the-Week award. Miller is ranked fourth in the MCAC in tackles per game, averaging 9.0. Bryce Nutall, linebacker for Minnesota West Community and Technical College, earned his second consecutive Defensive Player-of-the-Week award with his eight tackles, five solo and three assisted. Nutall had one tackle for a loss of yardage, one forced fumble, and an interception with a return of 40 yards.
Quonterrion Brooks, kick returner for Minnesota West Community and Technical College, earned the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week award. Brooks electrified the crowd with a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown to help his Bluejays secure the team's second win of the season.
