MCAC Winter Sports Athletes of the Week: Week of January 6-12

Rochester, MN - 

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports athletes of the week awards for the week of January 6-12.

Central Lakes College center Chesney Phillipp earned the MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. In 33 minutes of action, Phillipp hit 8 of 16 shots from the field and scored 17 points in the Raiders' lone game of the week, a loss to DII Gogebic Community College. She had 10 rebounds, one assist, two steals, and three blocks while shooting 50%.   

Braedon Gomez, a strong forward for Minnesota North College - Rainy River, earned the MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Gomez played 57 minutes and shot 69.6% from the field and 66.7% from behind the 3-point arc, scoring 42 points in the team's two wins. He had 20 rebounds, six assists, one steal, and four blocks during the week.   

Minnesota West Community and Technical College forward Katrina Schutz earned the MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Schutz scored 40 points and grabbed 24 rebounds in two wins during the week. She made 17 of 29 shots from the field and went 5 for 5 from the free throw line. Schutz also had six assists, four steals, and three blocks in 75 minutes of action.

Riverland Community College guard Nazih Chehade was named the MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week honoree. Chehade led the Blue Devils to two key road wins over Rochester and M State, scoring 35 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, 11 assists, and five steals in 78 minutes on the court. He made 15 of 26 shots from the field, shooting 57.7%.   

There were no nominations submitted this week for the MCAC Wrestler of the Week award.
