MCAC Winter Sports Athletes of the Week: Week of January 13-19

Rochester, MN - 

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports athletes of the week awards for the week of January 13-19.

Northland Community and Technical College strong forward Tiyana Schwinghammer earned the MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Scoring 36 points in 49 minutes of action, Schwinghammer was 17 for 34 (50%) from the field.  She also had 13 rebounds, 11 assists, six steals, and three blocks in the Pioneers' two wins.   

Central Lakes College forward Josh Rogers earned the MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Rogers played 43 minutes in the Raiders two wins, making 13 of 21 shots, a 61.9% shooting percentage, and scoring 34 points. He added 24 rebounds, six assists, a steal, and five blocks during the week.   

Mariam Alowonle, center for Anoka-Ramsey Community College, earned the MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Alowonle made 10 of 21 shots from the field and was perfect from the free throw line, scoring 22 points in the Golden Rams one game. Alowonle had 17 rebounds, one assist, and one steal in the win.

Riverland Community College guard Nazih Chehade was named the MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week honoree for the second straight week. In 65 minutes of court action, Chehade shot 66.7% from the field, making 16 of 24 shots and scoring 35 points. He rebounded 17 balls and had 13 assists, four steals, and a block in the Blue Devils' two wins.   

There were no nominations submitted this week for the MCAC Wrestler of the Week award.
