The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports athletes of the week awards for the week of January 20-26.
Tamia Cahee, point guard for Minnesota North College - Vermilion earned the MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Cahee scored 72 points and grabbed 32 rebounds during the week, and she helped her team pick up their first conference win of the season with a double-double. In 120 minutes of action in her three games, Cahee also had eight assists and five steals.
Minnesota North College - Rainy River power forward Rodney Mozard earned the MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Mozard scored 36 points and pulled down 33 rebounds in 71 minutes of court time. He added five assists, three steals, and two blocks to his stat line and shot 54.2% from the field to help the Voyageurs pick up another conference win.
There were no MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award nominations this week.
Rochester Community and Technical College strong forward Jamison Lien earned the MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award. Lien shot 45.9% from the field and 71.4% from the free throw line, scoring 43 points in 71 minutes of action during the week. He grabbed 24 rebounds and had eight assists and five steals in the Yellowjackets' two games.
Tegan Sherk, a 133-pound wrestler for Ridgewater College, earned this week's MCAC Wrestler of the Week award. The freshman from St. Francis, Minnesota, recently competed at the Worthington Open, a wrestling tournament hosted by Minnesota West Community and Technical College featuring highly ranked teams from all divisions of college wrestling. Sherk finished 5-0 on the day, earning a major decision, two technical falls, and two falls. He defeated two opponents from NJCAA DI programs and opponents from NCAA DI and DII programs. Sherk is currently ranked #1 in the MCAC and #2 in the NJCAA at 133 pounds.
