The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports athletes of the week awards for the week of February 17-23.
Tiyana Schwinghammer, guard for Northland Community and Technical College, earned the MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award again this week after nearly single-handedly defeating Central Lakes College. Schwinghammer scored 24 points in the 51-29 win, shooting 57.9% from the field. She rebounded six balls and had two assists, three steals, and three blocks in 37 minutes.
Minnesota North College - Rainy River forward Rodney Mozard earned the MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. In 78 minutes of court time, Mozard scored 32 points on 12 of 20 shooting from the floor. He grabbed 35 rebounds and had four assists, three steals, and five blocks in the Voyageurs' two games. Mozard leads the MCAC North in rebounds with 314 on the season.
Rhea Tucker, forward for Minnesota West Community and Technical College, has been named the MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week. Tucker scored 16 points in a win over Ridgewater College to secure a share of the MCAC South Division title. She hit 7 of 16 shots from the floor and grabbed 11 rebounds. Tucker also had three assists, three steals, and one block in 26 minutes of action.
Laden Nerison, point guard for Rochester Community and Technical College, earned the MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award. Nerison played 83 minutes in the Yellowjackets' two games, shooting 77.3% from the field and 60% from behind the three-point arc. He scored 45 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, and had 10 assists and two steals to help his team secure a spot in the postseason.
Tegan Sherk, a 133-pound freshman wrestler from Ridgewater College, and Connor Gmahl, a 184-pound freshman wrestler from Minnesota North College - Itasca, each earned this week's MCAC Wrestler of the Week award. Sherk, currently ranked 2nd in the nation with a 36-4 record, earned two technical falls at the North Plains District Tournament to qualify for nationals and was named the MCAC Outstanding Wrestler of the Year. Gmahl won a major decision over the #11 ranked 184-pounder at the North Plains District Tournament to qualify for the national tournament.

Tegan won the 133-pound division at the North Plains District Tournament on Sunday by earning two technical falls. He is currently ranked 2nd in the NJCAA and has a record of 36-4. Tegan was selected by the MCAC coaches as the MCAC Outstanding Wrestler of the Year. He will be wrestling at the NJCAA Wrestling National Tournament on March 7-8 in Council Bluffs, IA.
