MCAC Baseball Weekly Honors

Rochester, MN-

In a light week of baseball action across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference a handful of teams were able to get in some games.  Several good performances have been tabbed Pitcher or Player-of-the-Week across all three MCAC Divisions. 

MCAC Central Division 

Player & Pitcher-of-the-Week

Jake Kapphahn

Fr. / SS

Little Falls, MN

 

Jake Kapphahn had a great week for Central Lakes College at the plate and on the field for the Raiders and has earned the Player-of-the-Week in the Central Division for his efforts. 

Defensively, the freshman from Little Falls, Minnesota racked up ten assists and had five put-outs. His glovework included a diving catch with opponents on second and third base, preserving the win for the Raiders.  At bat, Kapphahn went 9-for-16 with ten RBI's.  He also drew four walks, stole a base and scored six CLC runs for the week. 

On Friday, March 29, Central Lakes is scheduled to take on the JV team at the University of Minnesota-Morris. 

 

 

                                

Preston Rocheleau

Pierz, MN 

Freshman Preston Rocheleau (Pierz, MN) got led Central Lakes College to a 8-inning win over Itasca Community College this past week and has picked up the Central Division Pitcher-of-the-Week award for his efforts.

Preston Rocheleau scattered five hits over eight innings of work for CLC.  His effort included ten strikeouts while only walking two Viking batters.  Over the course of the week, Rocheleau helped his team at the plate as well, going 3-for-8 with five runs batted in for Central Lakes. 

On Friday, March 29, Central Lakes is scheduled to take on the JV team at the University of Minnesota-Morris. 
             

 

 

MCAC Southern Division 

Player & Pitcher-of-the-Week

Luis Rosario

Toa Baja, Puerto Rico

Luis Rosario, a freshman catcher from Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, helped his Riverland Community College team enjoy a great weekend and has been tabbed the Southern Division Player-of-the-Week for his efforts. 

Rosario went 8-for-15 at the plate with five runs batted in across a 3-1 weekend for Riverland. He also scored five runs in the four games, helping the Blue Devils raise their record to 5-9 overall on the season. 

Riverland will next take the field on March 31 when they face Rainy River Community College.  

 

 

 

                                   

 

Ricardo Reyes

 Soph. / Pitcher

Puerto Rico

 

 

 

Minnesota West starting pitcher Ricardo Reyes was tabbed to take the mound against NJCAA Division II Dakota Bottineau and turned in a strong performance. The sophomore Blue Jay has been named Southern Division Pitcher-of-the-Week for his efforts. 

Reyes only allowed two hits while striking out nine batters.  He walked only three and did not concede a run on the day. In five innings pitched, he had perfect 0.00 ERA. 

Reyes and Minnesota West are scheduled to play next against Rainy River on Saturday, March 30.

 

 

 

 

 

MCAC Northern Division 

Player & Pitcher-of-the-Week

 

Joey Fracek

Fr. / Pitcher

Ft. Myers, FL

 

Joey Fracek took care of business on the mound as Hibbing Community College picked up a win over MCAC counterpart Mesabi Range College. Fracek went the distance in a complete-game three-hit performance en route to earning the Northern Division Pitcher-of-the-Week honor. 

The Fort Myers, Florida freshman struck out six batters without allowing a walk in the 5-1 win. Over seven innings pitched, Fracek allowed one earned run and helped his Cardinal teammates earn the first half of a double-header sweep over the Norse.  

Hibbing is scheduled to play University of Wisconsin-Barron County in Proctor, Minnesota on Saturday, March 30. 

 

Derrick Calvillo

 Fr. / Catcher

Tucson, AZ

 

Derrick Calvillo, a freshman catcher at Hibbing Community College has earned his second Player-of-the-Week honor of the season. 

Calvillo went 4-for-7 in double-header sweep of Mesabi Range College over the weekend.  He also notched two runs scored and an RBI for the Cardinals. 

Hibbing is scheduled to play University of Wisconsin-Barron County in Proctor, Minnesota on Saturday, March 30.
