MCAC Baseball Weekly Honors

Mother Nature kept several baseball programs from around the Minnesota College Athletic Conference from taking the field between April 8 and April 14; however, a few teams found playable fields and their efforts have yielded a handful of Player-of-the-Week honorees.

Tucker Sorenson

So. / Pitcher

Worthington, MN

Tucker Sorenson was dominant on the mound and at the plate for Minnesota West in a MCAC Southern Division contest against Anoka-Ramsey Community College and has been highlighted as a MCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week for his efforts. 

On the mound, Sorenson scattered four walks while racking up 14 strikeouts for the BlueJays.  He only conceded a pair of earned runs and claimed the win on the day.  The sophomore from Worthington twice struck out the side, and finished his impresseive day striking out the final ARCC hitter with the bases loaded to end the game.  

Along with his pitching exploits, Sorenson went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI's; he stole a base and scored a run for MnWest as well. 

Minnesota West is scheduled to play at Riverland Community College on Friday, April 19. 

 

 

 

Alex Haapajoki

Brainerd, MN

 

Alex Haapajoki, a freshman at Central Lakes College, put together a strong performance at the plate and has been tabbed as a MCAC Baseball Player-of-the-Week for his efforts.

The Brainerd, Minnesota product went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Raiders in a 20-3 win over the JV team at the University of Minnesota-Morris.  Haapajoki drove in three runs for CLC and scored three more himself as Central Lakes exploded for 14 runs in the first three innings of the contest. 

CLC will take on Ridgewater College later this week on  Friday, April 19.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Preston Rocheleau

Pierz, MN

                                     

 

Preston Rocheleau earned the start for Central Lakes College, and the freshman from Pierz, Minnesota was able to get his side off to a great start in a 20-3 win over the JV of the University of Minnesota-Morris. 

In three full innings of work, Rocheleau did not allow a Cougar hit and struck out three.   At the plate, Rocheleau drew a walk and scored a run for the Raiders.  With the win, Rocheleau and Central Lakes evened their overall record at 10-10 so far on the season. 

Central Lakes is scheduled to play Ridgewater College on Friday, April 19.
