In an important weekend of MCAC football action, several key performances helped lift football teams to crucial wins across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.
The best of several great efforts have been tabbed as Players-of-the-Week in the MCAC Western Division of football for the week ending October 7.

MCAC Western Division Player-of-the-Week, Defense DB / Soph. Newark, NJ

Isaiah Dennis-McLean has earned the Defensive Player-of-the-Week award in the MCAC Western Division for his strong outing in a 9-7 'Jack loss to North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday, October 6. The defensive back from Newark, New Jersey had 14 tackles on the day, three of which were solo stops. He also contributed a pass break-up and fumble recovery to the DCB effort. Dennis-McLean and Dakota College-Bottineaeu will travel to Fergus Falls, Minnesota on Saturday, October 13 for a 3pm game against the M State Spartans.

MCAC Western Division Player-of-the-Week, Offense
Craig Wells QB / Soph. West Palm Beach, FL

Northland Community & Technical College defeated Minnesota West CTC, 56-36, in a week six Western Division match-up, due in large measure to the outstanding performance of signal-caller Craig Wells. Wells passed for 428 yards on 24 completions and four touchdown throws for the Pioneers. His longest completion was 61 yards and the sophomore from West Palm Beach, Florida had only one interception in 30 attempts. Wells also ran for a touchdown and a two-point conversion for the Pioneers. Northland now sits at 4-1 overall and is 3-0 in the MCAC Western Division. Next Saturday, October 13, NCTC will travel to Wahpeton to take on the Wildcats of North Dakota State College of Science. Kickoff is set for 1:30pm.

MCAC Western Division Special Teams, Player-of-the-Week

Caleb Tinklenberg turned in a unique offensive performance in a 56-36 Minnesota West loss to NCTC on Saturday. His all-around efforts led the Pipestone, Minnesota sophomore to the MCAC Western Division selection for Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. In his regular role as a kicking specialist, Tinklenberg connected on a 20-yard field goal in his only attempt of the day and was 3-for-4 on extra points for the BlueJays. On kickoffs, he had 231 yards on five kicks. Caleb also lined up at quarterback for MnWest, where he was 19-of-31 for 231 yards with three passing TD's. He also had a rushing touchdown against Northland. In week seven, Tinklenberg and MnWest will have a break, as Ridgewater College announced earlier this fall they will be unable to complete the MCAC football season.

Notable Performances in the Western Division:
In a 9-7 Wildcat victory in the Lumbercat game against DCB to remain unbeaten at 6-0, Marshaun Jones had 13 total tackles for NDSCS, while Caleb Kennedy and Tony Madison chipped in ten stops each. In the defensive struggle, JaDerian Johnson had a pair of quarterback sacks and Habonimana Simon had a fumble return. Running backs Jay-Len Brown and Dontay Watson had 78 yards and 77 yards respectivley for NDSCS.
NCTC wide receiver Devonaire Clairington had six catches for 113 yards, with a 37-yard haul as his longest catch. Dylaan Lee also broke the 100-yard mark with 110 yards receiving and a touchdown. He also had 115 yards on two kickoff returns, including one for a touchdown. Defensivley, Justin Murray had two interceptions, netting 48 yards in return real estate. Tristin Murrin maintained his dominant form, collecting 15 total tackles, 11 of which were solo stops. Marquavious McCatty and Hunter Roller combined for nine tackles behind the line of scrimmage for the Pioneers.
Minnesota West CTC fell to NCTC 56-36, but Blaize Williams had three catches for 90 yards with two touchdowns and Tyler Linder contribued five catches for 69 yards. Punter Trevon Wilkenson averaged more than 42 yards per kick, with a longest effort of 52 yards. Defensively, Jayvon Green had nine tackles (8 solo) while Beau Priegnitz and Kezery LeBeau combined for 11 stops and four quarterback sacks. Rashawn Crumpler added an interception for the BlueJays.
In tough conditions, DCB running back Jaylen Wilson collected 76 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown for the 'Jacks. Punter Francisco Flores hit double-digits with ten kicks on the day, dropping two efforts inside the NDSCS 20 yard line. Aaron Appleton had two stops behind the line of scrimmage among his 14 tackles, while Nekio Hayes-Thurman had nine tackles. Lenard Cribbs forced a fumble and had eight tackles for Dakota College-Bottineau in a 9-7 loss to NDSCS. |
