Minnesota State Men's golf gets MCAC fall seasons off and running

MCAC Sports - The Minnesota State men's golf team took to the links this past weekend in the Jimmie Invite hosted by Jamestown Country Club.  The Spartans took 2nd place in the 5 team event with a two day score of 635.  MN State was lead by Carter Justesen who fired rounds of 76 and 72 to finish runner-up with a two day total of 148.  The event, which featured teams from four year programs: Jamestown, Dickinson State and Valley City State was won by Jamestown Orange with a two day total of 607.

Spartan individual results were as follows:

Carter Justesen 76-72= 148

Wyatt Blomseth 75-82= 157

Hunter Burnside 86-79= 165

Grant Inniger 86-82= 168

John Vall 83-85= 168

Drew Schwann 82-74= 156

Mike Vall 98-91= 189

Canaan Kugler 97-95= 192

Drew Schwann's second day 74 was the third best round of day two.  Head Coach Jason Retzlaff said: ""It was a solid start for our team against some excellent competition.  We had a lot of good rounds derailed by a few bad holes.  Once we can take care of that we should be able to post some quality team scores. The conditions were tougher on Monday and it was nice to see we were the only team that improved from their Sunday team score.  Carter Justesen played so well and did a great job leading us. He was in contention for medalist honors until the end.  Drew Schwann also gave us a great round today as an individual as he putted the ball extremely well."

The Spartans, who finished 3rd in the 2019 NJCAA Div. III National Championships are back in action on Thursday, September 22nd, taking on Southwest Tech in a dual match at Maple Valley Golf Club in Rochester, MN.
