MCAC Softball Players-of-the-Week

Rochester, Mn-

With much of the state staring down a spring snowstorm, a handful of softball teams around the Minnesota College Athletic Conference were able to compete within the friendly confines of domes in Rochester and the Twin Cities.  Some of the best performances of the weekend have been tabbed worthy of Player-of-the-Week honors, for the week ending Sunday, April 1. 

 

                                                SOUTHERN DIVISION 

 


   Player-of-the-Week 

Lindsey Swanson

Sophomore 

Anoka-Ramsey Community College   

Lindsey Swanson, a sophomore from Mounds View, Minnesota provided the Golden Rams some heorics from both the batters box and the pitching circle in a great week for ARCC

Against Northern Division front-runner Central Lakes College, Swanson connected for a one-out,  two-run home run, leading Anoka-Ramsey to a dramatic 5-3 win over the Raiders.  Swanson also was 4-for-4 from the plate with five RBI's against Rochester Community & Technical College. 

As a pitcher, Swanson was 3-0 on the weekend, including wins over Itasca Community College and CLC.   Overall, she pitched 19 innings, scattering 25 hits along the way.  For the week, Swanson earned a ERA of 2.88 

Anoka-Ramsey next plays on Friday, April 6 against Riverland Community College. ARCC sits at 11-8 overall on the season. 

 

Pitcher-of-the-Week 

Ashley Pool

Sophomore 

St. Cloud Technical & Community College 

Ashley Pool, a sophomore pitcher from Zimmerman, Minnesota, was almost untouchable in a pair of games played this past week by St. Cloud Technical & Community College. 

Pool had a pair of complete games for the Cyclones, giving up only three hits and one earned run in 9 innings of work.  OVerall, Pool conceded three runs overall, while walking only three batters.  She struck out 20 hitters over the two contests, a 17-1 win over Riverland Community College and a 12-2 triumph over Mesabi Range College.  

Pool was also active at the plate, hitting .500 (6-for-12), while also earning three walks with two home runs and six runs batted in.

SCTCC, currently 12-9-1 on the season, is scheduled to next play on Friday, April 6 at Rochester Community & Technical College.

 Player-of-the-Week

Kayla Christopherson

Sophomore 

Itasca Community College 

Kayla Christopherson, a sophomore from Zimmermann, Minnesota, has been tabbed Player-of-the-Week in the Northern Division for the week ending April 1. 

Christopherson had a monster week at the plate for the Itasca Vikings, notching nine hits in 16 at-bats.  Among her hits were two triples and home run; she also had five RBI's total and scored eight runs herself.  As a shortstop, she is turning in a 97% success rate in fielding percentage for the 12-7 ICC squad. 

Itasca is next scheduled to play on April 18 when they take on Northland CTC. 

 

 

   Pitcher-of-the-Week

Kayla Larson

Sophomore

Central Lakes College 

Kayla Larson, a sophomore from Isle, Minnesota, earned the Northern Division Pitcher-of-the-Week honors for a strong outing against M State over the weekend. 

Larson threw a complete game one-hitter against the Spartans and was inches away from a no-hitter, giving up a solitary double on the day.  Overall, she had five innings pitched for the Raiders, conceded no runs and zero walks, while striking out nine total.  

The Raiders will take on Williston State College on Wednesday, April 11 in a non-conference double-header against the NJCAA Division II Tetons.
