MCAC Women's Basketball: Athletes-of-the-Week

Several pivotal contests took place in women's basketball across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference this past week, as teams vie for position and hosting rights in the upcoming Region XIIIA & XIIIB tournaments.  Read on for more about two stellar student-athletes who were key in their teams success on the court in MCAC action.

Southern Division

Athlete-of-the-Week

Caitlin Young

Soph. / Guard

Holmen, WI

 

 

The Performance:  Western Tech sophomore Caitlin Young has been tabbed Athlete-of-the-Week in MCAC Southern Division women's basketball. 

The Cavaliers picked up an important win over Ridgewater College to keep pace in the Southern Division race and a non-conference win over the JV team of Luther College. 

Despite an injury, Young tallied 33 points for the week and hauled in seven rebounds on limited minutes.  The sophomore standout also had four assists, a steal and a block for the Cavaliers. 

Western Tech went 2-0 for the week and are ranked in the NJCAA Women's Basketball Top 15.  They will face SCTCC on Wednesday, February 12, with tip-off set for 5:45pm in St. Cloud.

Northern Division

Athlete-of-the-Week

   

 Adesenna Anderson

Houston, TX 

 

The Performance:   Adesenna Anderson provided a balanced effort in leading the Rainy River Community College Voyageurs to a pair of Northern Division wins last week. 

Anderson averaged 19.5 points a contest in the two wins; she hauled in 18 rebounds for the week as well. The Houston, Texas freshman was stellar defensively, with 12 steals across the two games; she also notched a pair of assists. 

Rainy River, who emerged in the NJCAA Top 15 Poll last week, will face Northland in a crucial match-up on Wednesday in Thief River Falls. The game is set for a 5:30pm tip-off.
