NJCAA Region XIII WBB Post-Season Kicks Off Today

Women's basketball teams from across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference begin their pursuit of NJCAA Region XIII A & Region XIIIB hardware today, Saturday, February 29. At stake in both competitions is a trip to the 2019-20 NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championships in Rockford, Illinois on March 12-14, 2020.

In Thief River Falls, Minnesota, four teams from the MCAC Northern Division will compete to crown a regional champion. During the regular season,  Rainy River Community College (17-9) and Northland Community & Technical College (18-5) tied on record at 13-1 and split their two Divisional games; a coin flip allocated the No. 1 seed to the Pioneers, who will open up with No. 4 Central Lakes College  (9-15) today at 2pm.  The Voyageurs - as the No. 2 seed - will face #3 Hibbing Community College (14-9); the Cardinals come into the weekend tournament as the defending Region XIIIB champions. 

Semi-final winners in Thief River Falls will meet up tomorrow on campus at Northland to battle in the 2019-20 Region XIIIB Championship game.  The Pioneers, currently ranked 8th in the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Top 15 poll, have won eight straight contests since falling 64-41 at Rainy River on January 22.

In Coon Rapids, Minnesota, a single first-round contest Saturday, February 29 between Western Technical College (20-6) and Minnesota West CTC (14-11) will produce a championship participant for the NJCAA Region XIIIA title game. The Cavalier - Lady Jay winner will face host and top-seeded Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Sunday, March 1 at 2pm. 

Western Technical comes into today's game as the No. 2 seed and claims the sixth spot in the current NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Top 15 poll. Minnesota West dispatched Ridgewater College 62-41 in Willmar on February 19th to punch their ticket to the 2019 NJCAA Region XIIIA post-season.  Veteran coach Rosalie Hayenga's Lady Jay team has gone 13-7 since December 1st and will be facing Western Tech for the third time this season.

The ARCC Golden Rams (19-6) are #9 in the national poll and concluded the 2019-20 MCAC Southern Division slate at 9-1; Anoka-Ramsey is 19-6 overall on the season.  Head coach David DeWitt captured Southern Division adidas/Nicklasson Athletic Coach-of-the-Year honors in 2019-20.
