MCAC Wrestling Has All-American, Man-of-the-Year

Rochester, Mn-

While the 2018 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships have concluded to wrap up the season in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference, the accolades keep rolling in for MCAC coaches and athletes.

Rochester Community & Technical College head coach Randy Rager was tabbed the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Association 'Man-of-the-Year' at the 2018 Championships held in Council Bluffs, Iowa this past weekend.  Rager earned 'Non-scholarship Coach-of-the-Year' in 2017 at the same event and was also a finalist for Coach-of-the-Year in the Rochester Sports annual recognition competition.  Rager's team qualified nine student-athletes for the Championships and had lone MCAC All-American this weekend; Mason Hawkins (197#) earned Honorable Mention All-American for the Yellowjackets.  Click here for the complete list of NJCAA Awards allocated at the 2018 Championships.

Hawkins, a sophomore from Farmington, advanced to the 4th/5th place round of the tournament at his weight class, good for Honorable Mention status in the second-heaviest weight class of NJCAA Wrestling.  Hawkins is a key component of the RCTC squad which was ranked #10 in the February 21 Top 20 poll.  Rochester was the highest ranked non-scholarship team listed for 2018.

Wrestlers from all five Minnesota College Athletic Conference programs- RCTC, Northland CTC, MnWest, Itasca and Ridgewater- took part in the 2018 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships.  For complete results, brackets and more, please visit: http://www.njcaawrestlingcb.com/
