Anoka-Ramsey, Rochester Set to Battle for Soccer Hardware

Winona, MN -

The women's soccer teams at Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Rochester Community & Technical College are set to meet for third time this season today in Coon Rapids.

At stake this time will be the NJCAA Region XIII championship and the right to move on to Great Lakes District play.

The match scheduled for a 2pm kickoff will feature the Yellowjackets and Golden Rams squads that finished their most recent game tied at 1-1.  Anoka-Ramsey rolled to a 8-2-1 overall mark this fall, while Rochester clocks in at 7-5-2 overall this season.

The winner of Sunday's match will earn the right to host the 2019 Great Lakes District Championship on November 2-3; the champions of Region XIII, Region IV and Region XII shall compete in that competition for the right to advance to the NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer National Championships.

For Anoka-Ramsey, the Golden Rams will be looking to secure their second soccer Region trophy in two days.  On Saturday, October 19, the Golden Rams captured the Region XIII men's crown, thanks to an 88th minute strike from Nils Gulbrandson that tied ARCC with Riverland at  followed by another Nils Gulbrandson goal with only two minutes remaining in the second overtime.  The 3-2 double overtime win marked the second extra-time game between the two sides in 2019.  Goalkeeper Devon Thompson recorded three saves en route to his sixth win of the year.
