MCAC Volleyball Week 3: Northern Division Players-of-the-Week

Rochester, Mn-

Some of the first head-to-head action between the perennial powers in the Northern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference ranks occurred between September 4th and September 10th.  Several MCAC volleyball student-athletes put together strong performances on behalf of their teams, and four Northern standouts have been tabbed Players-of-the-Week in their respective roles. Also debuting this week is the MCAC  'Stats Leaders' icon on Conference sport homepage.  In the Stats Leaders section, MCAC student-athletes are listed in the same categories as found within the NJCAA national database.

MCAC North, Hitter of the Week:

Shantel Verbout, a volleyball student-athlete at Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls, has earned Week 3 Hitter-of-the-Week honors in the Northern Division.  Verbout is third nationally in Kills Per Set (5.71) and leads the country in hitting percentage at .655.  The Grygla, Minnesota native is also 3rd in the NJCAA in Points per Set. Northland is off to a strong start, sitting at 4-0 on the season so far, and 3-0 in Conference play.  A Wednesday, September 13th match against national power Central Lakes could prove to be a pivotal contest in the MCAC North race. Matchtime is set at 6:30pm in Brainerd.

MCAC North, Setter of the Week:

Northland Community & Technical College athlete Brenna Dallager has been an important part of the Pioneer's strong start to 2017.  As a freshman in the Conference,  the Strathcona native is in the top 25 nationally in Assists Per Set at almost 7.0 and was a key performer in Northland's win over Mesabi Range earlier this week.   Northland's 4-0 start has MCAC Volleyball fans looking forward to a September 13th MCAC North match against Central Lakes in Brainerd.  Dallager, and her NCTC teammates, will take their 3-0 MCAC North mark into Brainerd for a key contest at 6:30pm.

MCAC North, Defensive Player of the Week:

Alison Satre picks up the Week 3 Defensive Player-of-the-Week in the Northern Division, helping lead the Rainy River Community College Voyageurs to a .500 week, beating Anoka-Ramsey and Fond du Lac by 3-0 scorelines, while falling to the JV team of Bethel University and NJCAA Division II Dakota County Technical College in tournament play over the weekend.  Satre, from Gygla, Minnesota, is a freshman libero for head coach Mel Millerbernd.   Rainy River will look to keep their MCAC North momentum when they travel to Hibbing CC on Wednesday, September 13th for a 6:30pm match.

MCAC North, All-Around Player-of-the-Week:

Central Lakes College right sided hitter and setter Paige Wallevand takes home All-Around Player-of-the-Week honors for Week 3 in the Northern Division.  Wallevand had only 1 error against 15 kills on 30 attempts, hitting for .466% in MCAC North contests against Mesabi Range College and Vermilion Community College, both 3-0 wins for the Raiders. The Henning , Mn product helped CLC raise it's overall record to 8-2 and is currently at 3-0 in the Northern Division.  Wellevand and her Raider teammates will take on Northland CTC in a showdown of top-performing teams on Wednesday, September 13th at home in Brainerd.
