The Northern Division of MCAC Volleyball enjoyed a week full of important matches that impacted the playoff picture for several squads. Central Lakes College continues to be unbeaten at 11-0 in the Northern Division, while Hibbing and Northland were able to separate themselves from the pack, running their Conference records to 10-2.   The top individual performances over the past week have been recognized as Players-of-the-Week in the Northern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference. 

Defensive Player-of-the-Week: 

Hibbing Community College had another solid week in their 2017 campaign, going 2-0 with Divisional triumphs over Mesabi Range College and Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College.  A key part of the Cardinal success was middle hitter,  Marriah Janke, a outside hitter from Alborn, Minnesota.  Janke 45 serve receptions without an error and 25 digs in the two wins.  Central Lakes libero Kahlen Manthey , from Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, tallied 59 digs and seven aces over the course of the two wins for the Raiders.  CLC leads the Division at 11-0 so far on the year.  Janke and Manthey share this week's Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor. 

Setter-of-the-Week: 

Rainy River Community College picked up an important win this past week with a 3-0 shutouts over Vermilion Community College; helping lead the way was Karli Phillips, a freshman from Camrose, Alberta.   Phillips had 20 assists and four digs in Rainy River's victory.  Phillips, coach Mel Millerberndt and the rest of the RRCC team head into this week with a match against Itasca Community College on Tuesday before traveling to the MCAC/Twin Cities Gateway Tournament on Thursday. 

Hitter-of-the-Week:

Holly Starkovich   has earned MCAC North Hitter-of-the-Week honors for her performance leading Hibbing Community College to a pair of MCAC North wins this past week.   Starkovich had 22 kills between the two matches, with 12 kills against Mesabi Range College and 10 kills against Fond du Lac.  The sophomore from Hibbing, Minnesota and her Cardinal teammates are in a tie for second place in the Northern Division with Northland CTC.   Hibbing travels to Anoka Ramsey for the MCAC/Twin Cities Crossover later this week. 

All-Around Player-of-the-Week: 

Northland CTC student-athlete Madison Magner  has been named the All-Around Player-of-the-Week in the MCAC Northern Division for MCAC Volleyball. The Newfolden, Minnesota native, hit the 600 dig plateau in her Pioneer career when she helped NCTC down Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College last week.  Her 18 digs, six kills, two blocks and a pair of service aces rounded out a great performance by Magner for NCTC. The Pioneers are back in action this week at the MCAC/Twin Cities Gateway Tournament in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
