The final week of regular season play in volleyball throughout the Minnesota College Athletic Conference yielded plenty of movement in the final standings of both Divisions. Several outstanding individual performances were a part of the season-ending contests, and the best of those nominated have been named 'Players-of-the-Week'.
Defensive Player-of-the-Week:
Riverland Community College student-athlete, Elly Buck had a great week to close out the 2017 volleyball season. Buck was instrumental with her passing and digging in the RCC win over Western Technical College and was solid again in a competitive match against Ridgewater College. Buck had 3.7 digs per game against these two teams. Additionally, Buck is third in the MCAC for digs per set with a total of 328 and 4.20 digs per set.
Setter-of-the-Week:
Rochester CTC setter Maddeson Hintz put together an impressive week, helping lead the Yellowjackets to the #3 seed in the NJCAA Region XIIIA tournament to begin on Friday. She had 26 set assists and 8 digs against Minnesota West CTC and added another 46 set assists, 10 digs against M State. In one of the most important matches for RCTC this year, Hintz dished out 39 set assists and collected 10 digs in Rochester's 3-0 win over Ridgewater College.
Hitter of the Week:
St. Cloud Technical & Community College outside hitter, Kyra Harvey, finished the 2017 regular season on a high note. Harvey hit an for a .524 hitting percentage with 11 kills and zero errors over the past week. Coach Heidi Smith notes that Harvey has been a strong and dedicated leader and a vital part of the Cyclone success this season. SCTCC, Kyra Harvey, and Coach Smith will host the NJCAA Volleyball Region XIIIA Tournament this upcoming weekend, with the Cyclones sitting in the #1 seed.
All-Around Player-of-the-Week:
In leading RCTC to a #3 seed in the NJCAA Region XIIIA tournament next weekend, Yellowjacket athlete Tara Rogers has earned the MCAC Southern Division All-Around Player-of-the-Week. Rogers had 13 kills, 8 digs for Rochester CTC against Minnesota West and added another 15 kills and 19 digs against nationally ranked M State. Additionally, Rogers tallied 20 kills, 7 digs against another nationally-ranked opponent, Ridgewater College, helping RCTC out of potential three-way tie for 4th place in the Division and into safe territory at the #3 seed.
