MCAC Volleyball Athletes-of-the-Week

Several volleyball teams across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference had strong outings this past week in both Conference play and competition outside of the MCAC schedule.

The best performances of those athletes have been recognized as Players-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, September 15.

Mikala Kowarsch

 So. / Setter 

Iron, MN

Setter-of-the-Week 

Mikala Kowarsch had 50 set assists, 32 digs and a pair of blocks in two Mesabi Range College wins this past week. Her strong performance for the Norse has earned her MCAC Setter-of-the-Week honors for the week ending Sunday, September 16. 

The sophomore setter from Iron, Minnesota paced the Mesabi attack as they picked up a key Northern Division win over Hibbing Community College, as well as a non-conference victory over Oak Hills Christian College. Mesabi also dropped a 3-0 decision to NJCAA Division II Dakota County Technical College.

Mesabi Range, 3-0 in the Northern Division, is back in action this week with a MCAC match against Itasca Community College on Tuesday, September 18.  Matchtime is set for 6:30pm at home in Virginia, Minnesota. 

 

Alison Satre

So./Libero

Grygla, MN

Defensive Player-of-the-Week

Alison Satre, a sophomore from Rainy River Community College, has earned the MCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, September 16. 

The Voyageur libero had several strong performances in the three-match week for Rainy River, including a 20-dig performance in the RRCC 3-1 win over Vermilion Community College on Wednesday, September 12.  She had 27 more digs combined in a pair of losses to Itasca and Northland over the Friday-Saturday triangular event. 

Satre and the Voyageur squad will return to action this week with matches against Gogebic Community College and Vermilion Community College

 

 

Hannah Ekse

Fr. / Middle Hitter 

 Perham, MN

Hitter-of-the-Week

Hannah Ekse, a freshman at M State-Fergus Falls, has been tabbed the Hitter-of-the-Week for her offensive prowess in leading the Spartan attack in a two-win week.  

Against nationally ranked St. Cloud Technical & Community College, Ekse hit for a .385% hitting mark with 11 kills against the Cyclones in a 3-0 win.  She went on to post a .583% hitting percentage in another MCAC Southern Division win over Anoka-Ramsey Community College.  Over the two matches, Ekse notched 19 total kills. 

M State, currently 9th in the national poll, will face off against the JV team of Concordia College on Wednesday, September 19. 

 

 

   

 

 Fr.Outside Hitter 

Greenbush, MN 

   All-Around Player-of-the-Week         

Carly Mekash, of Northland Community & Technical College, has been tabbed the MCAC All-Around Player-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, September 16.   

Mekash, an outside hitter from Greenbush, Minnesota tallied 7 kills, 6 digs, 8 kills for .353% 6 digs on Friday and 13 kills for .355% with 26 digs on Saturday across a trio of matches against MCAC competition.

The Pioneers went 3-0 against St. Cloud Technical & Community College, Itasca Community College and Rainy River Community College.  All three matches were in Thief River Falls. 

Mekash and her NCTC teammates sit at an impressive 9-2 on the year, and 1-1 in the MCAC Northern Division.
