Winona, MN-

The 2019 MCAC Volleyball season is well underway in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference and the Minnesota West CTC Lady Jays look to lead the way as teams head into the long holiday weekend.

Head Coach Brittney McNab, a former NJCAA All-America selection in Worthington, and assistant coach CJ Nelson have their squad clicking on all cylinders as MnWest stands 5-0 currently.  The Lady Jays swept through the MCAC Crossover last week, dropping only two sets total in 3-2 win over Mesabi Range. Since then, McNab's team has swept Northland, Rainy River, Hibbing and NJCAA Division II Iowa Lakes Community College.  MnWest is off this weekend and will open up MCAC Southern Division play on Wednesday, September 4 at Riverland.

Also unbeaten in the MCAC Southern Division are nationally-ranked Rochester Community & Technical College and M State-Fergus Falls, each 4-0 on the season. Both squads will also be competing at the College of DuPage Chaparral Invitational this weekend, with each facing multiple nationally ranked teams. The Yellowjackets are led by returning All-American Carrie Rutledge who leads the MCAC in kills-per-set (5.50) and Hayley Dessner who is second in the Conference in the same category at 4.17. The Spartans are getting it done on defense, with Bailey Marty leading the MCAC in Digs-per-Set at 5.07.

RCTC's Rutledge is averaging

5.50 kills-per-set

St. Cloud Technical & Community College also will feature at the College of DuPage tournament, where they will lead off with Rock Valley College on Friday. The Cyclones are also off to a strong start at 3-1 and the SCTCC team has strong depth with 15 players on the roster this fall, including current MCAC Athlete-of-the-Week Kamryn D'Heilly

Rounding out the South, Ridgewater College is 2-2 so far in 2019; the Warriors and first-year coach Erica Smith are off this weekend and will face M State Fergus Falls on Wednesday.  Western Technical College will open up their season against Century College on Friday; this fall is Century's first season in varsity volleyball and will join the MCAC Southern Division teams in 2020.  Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Riverland Community College are both idle this weekend before opening up their seasons on September 4th.

All Northern Division volleyball teams are idle this weekend, but several competed on Wednesday, heading into the holiday weekend.  Mesabi Range College dispatched Rainy River Community College and the University of Wisconsin-Barron County in the Norse Triangular in Virginia to move to 3-3 on the year.  Nationally-ranked Central Lakes College beat the JV team from Mayville State College and fell to North Dakota State College of Science 3-0; the Raiders are also 3-3 in 2019.  Raider Sydney Berg is tops in the MCAC in total kills, notching 86 so far; teammate Maggie Fellerman is 3rd in the Conference at 60.
