MCAC Volleyball Has Two Athletes Receive National Honors

Winona, MN-

Volleyball programs from across the  Minnesota College Athletic Conference  have fared well on the national stage early in 2019, with five teams picking up a NJCAA Top Ten poll ranking yesterday and several teams boasting perfect - or nearly perfect - records after two weeks of play. MnWest, RCTC, Central Lakes, M State-Fergus Falls and St. Cloud Technical & Community College all landed in the NJCAA Top 10 this week.

Two individual student-athletes were highlighted by the NJCAA in the first week of National Player-of-the-Week voting; Rochester Community & Technical College sophomore Carrie Rutledge and Tori Nelson of St. Cloud Community & Technical College both received inaugural NPOW honors.

Rutledge, an All-America selection for the Yellowjackets in 2018, was tabbed NJCAA Division III Offensive Player-of-the-Week on the strength of an unbeaten four-match outing at the College of DuPage Invitational this past weekend. Rutledge had 146 kills and a 6.08 Kill-per-Set mark.

Nelson - a sophomore for SCTCC - was named the NJCAA Division III Defensive Player-of-the-Week in the country as the Cyclones also went 4-0 at the College of DuPage competition. Nelson leads the MCAC in digs after two weeks of play.

Both Nelson and Rutledge, and all 16 MCAC Volleyball teams, will be in action today, Wednesday, September 4th, as Divisional play opens up.  For the complete MCAC schedule, please click here or go to: https://www.mcacsports.org/sports/wvball/2019-20/schedule
